Antequera was a real surprise! We stayed an extra night to spend time hiking in El Torcal. Remember to get off the train at Antequera AV and NOT Antequera Santa Ana to visit Antequera (taxi from Santa Ana is 40 euros, from AV it is 8 euros).
It is a very pretty, laid back town, very quiet during the day with some lovely bars and restaurants at night. Recommend Plaza San Francisco next to the Mercado (market), Plaza Coso Viejo, Marengo at Plaza Desculpas for drinks, coffee and breakfast. Arte Tapas next to Hostelaria Arte is lovely, also Restaurant Leila for dinner.
The museum in Coso Vieja is free and surprisingly good.
Visit the lovely Alcazar-with pretty views, the Dolmens (archeological site) a 20 min walk from town, and El Torcal mountains nature reserve - it’s free to go, a taxi return journey for two hours costs around 50 euros but well worth it. The tourist information is very helpful and will book taxis for you.
Hotel Infanta is great- lovely staff, rooms on 3rd floor (we had 301) have views of the square, rooftops and Lovers Rock (Peña de los Enamorados) and a rooftop sun terrace and tiny pool. Fantastic value at £72 a night!

An interesting old town with narrow streets, many churches and museums, scores of restaurants and tapas bars and a friendly atmosphere. Access to Granada and Ronda are easy by train or car. El Torcal is a very interesting trip into the mountains. A good central location for southern Andalucia

Lots of historical buildings and churches.
Lots of historical buildings and churches. The view from the castle at the top of the hill is worth the climb and the beautiful church. Plenty of eating places. We loved Loulu’s Bistro for breakfast opposite our hotel.

Friendly Pueblo Blanco town that’s easy to move through on foot or in car. It’s a central location to so much in Andalucía within 2-3 hours in a car, so you can spend a day in busy hectic Seville or Cordoba and sleep in peaceful Antequera.

Very friendly town.
Very friendly town. Recommend a guided tour to include the dolmens - we booked a combination tour of walking the town, visiting a chapel and a short ride in a 'micro bus' to the dolmens.
Buy cakes and pastries from a convent. Spend an evening in Bar Lola next to Plaza Coso Viejo for excellent food, friendly service and great atmosphere.
Antequera is an easy 45-minute drive from Málaga airport, so it's a great place to spend a couple of nights before heading off to explore Andalucía. Lots of free parking.

Antequera is a pretty town with a big church and castle. Also, you can visit dolmens (in the town) and El Torcal hiking area (nearby, some 20km maybe). The town seemed cozy during workdays and quite busy on Saturday with many people cruising the streets.

We used to stay here a lot but about a year ago we stopped because the hotel standards dropped too much ...... We read some recent good reviews and decided to try the hotel again and I am pleased to say the the high standards of cleanliness, quiet comfort and helpful cheerful staff have returned and we will no doubt stay again!
A beautiful hotel. Easy check in, friendly helpful welcome. Comfey beds, and a large bedroom. The shower was very fast and hot, the best I have ever used.
Food was good, but expensive, (it was worth it).
The bar staff served us our last drink and left us to finish it as long as we wished.
Late check out was great.
The size of the room was large, there was plenty of storage and the water pressure in the shower was excellent. There was s restaurant downstairs and the location was central for everything we needed.
This was the best value room we have found in Spain.
Location is within walking distance of a wide selection of shops and restaurants. The hotel is good value for money and the staff were friendly and helpful. We needed a one - night stop over on our journey from Seville to Malaga and this was spot on.
