Aguete is only ok, Puerto de las Nieves next to it where the ferry arrives is lovely.
I would go there just to eat at Angor fish restaurant on the front by harbour. In fact if I was rich, I would be happy to fly there just to have dinner.
There is a reason why it is often full when the ok restaurants neat it are not.

Accommodation was spotless with all the amenities you need for self catering. Hot tub was superb in the evening watching the sun set. a good location to explore the top on the island and very easy to visit Las Palmas. A car is a must to enjoy the full delights that the north has to offer and with your own underground parking space it was very safe if returning late at night knowing you wont struggle with parking.

If you want to get a bit more remote and not in the high rise this is your spot. In the old town there's a few places to eat, don't leave it too lateen a Sunday or there's not much open.
The port is fine, plenty of restaurants you'd expect on the quay. Loved the swim pools, discovered them on our second last day & would have used them and the promenade more had I known!
The road south is great fun with epic views, but not for the faint hearted with tiny windy roads and potential rock falls if it's been raining.
Nice spot, nearby coffee plantations a great day trip.

Fish restaurants in the Puerto area are all brilliant.
Fish restaurants in the Puerto area are all brilliant.
Agaete town is quiet and sleepy, but lovely. Excellent coffee at the bakery. the Huertas de las Flores is a gorgeous and lush oasis of amazing trees and flowers.
the municipal library is a wonderful community space.
Excellent location and starting point for some really good hikes. Local public transport is really good. We took the local bus to Los Berrazales coffee place (finca la Laja), then walked back along the valley floor ('el valle' or 'el barranco').
Perfect place for a quiet holiday - lots of other visitors, but it is not a 'big resort' kind of place, just people who come for hiking and very good fresh fish!

Agaete has a magical spirit, which is hard to describe rationally. In the compact and pretty town center is a wide range of cafés, bars and restaurants. Narrow streets elevate the whole slope up to the topmost view. Often there is some music festival in the town. Surrounding mountain are always visible, being a background for small beautiful places that are worth to seek for. Neighbouring port town offers beaches, natural piscinas and more bars and cafés. Supermarket is located practically halfway between, together with a closed bath (also suitable for children) and gorgeous Hondo café, which would be a mistake not to visit. Agaete is easy to reach by car using highway, which is currently being extended further south. However, bus services are poor in speed due to detouring to many villages along the highway and often delayed, and most of all too infrequent except for the line to Las Palmas.

No hot water when arrived.
No hot water when arrived. Dodgy tap in a bathroom meant no hot water all the stay. Ants in a bathroom all ten days. Damaged bathroom door. No toaster. No "free toiletries or toaster" both advertised.
Sparse kitchen utilities. No pegs for hanging out washing. Two outside lights missing.
Contacted both booking.com, Holidu and the useless Victor Ramos. E mails over nearly all ten days, and the responses to all queries raised. ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. Victor exists to stall clients, do nothing and prevent money being spent. He blames the owners if he cannot do anything (he know exactly what he is doing ...........) Basically rubbish

See reviews by guests who stayed at hotels in Agaete
The house is beautifully decorated with all of the appliances and utensils you require to be able to live as comfortably as you would in your own house. The views are amazing and the terrace is a little piece of heaven in Agaete. The hosts are extremely helpful and super fast at responding to any questions we had before, during and even after our stay. If you are planning on visiting the North West of Gran Canaria, then this is the place to stay. We both loved it!!!!
The appartement is beautifully located, quiet yet close to restaurants, a mini-supermarket and the local places to be. We enjoyed the roof top terasse as much as comfortable beds and the well equipped kitchen. If you come by car make sure to use the public parking nearby- it's way less stressful than trying to find a spot in the tiny and narrow streets of agaete.
I enjoyed the interior design of the place and the guide of what to do in Gran Canaria. If you have trouble finding interesting things, this guide can for sure enrich your stay on this part of the Island.
This was our third visit to Hotel Rural Las Longueras. We love the orignal, historic character of the hotel, the friendly atmosphere and the beautiful surroundings.
