I loved the restaurante in town. EL Mesón del Tren!

I loved the restaurante in town. EL Mesón del Tren! The owners Lorena & Diego were attentive, friendly, and spent time with us during dinner. Lorena cooked for us a great meal as we requested! It's an old Spanish style restaurante that takes your breath away and the Food is incredible! Alausi can be a bit of a maze to drive around. But the second day, we were pro's!!!

It's a nice little town with a nice spirit .

It's a nice little town with a nice spirit . Hiking is great along the nariz del diablo train route - great views. Here you can also see a lot of indigenous ecuatorian people, especially on sundays at the indigenous market. If you want to sleep make sure you pick the right hotel because dogs and roosters are really loud here late at the night and early in the morning and many hotels have no soundproofing at all.

Alausi is a very safe and small town.

Alausi is a very safe and small town. You can easily walk everywhere in the main town. There are ATMs and lots of restaurants. Two to three days is a good time to explore the town and take the train ride.

Authentic town with cobblestone streets, lots of small restaurants nestled in the mountains. Large indigenous population with artisans and local fare. We were there for the Devils Nose Train ride which did not disappoint. Lots of hiking options for mountain views. Breathtaking scenery.

Alausi is a very peaceful, friendly little town.

Alausi is a very peaceful, friendly little town. The focus is the old train parked in town, ready for its regular trips up to El Nariz del Diablo. The streets are all up and down, except for the main treelined boulevard. There are a number of beautifully painted murals around town. We enjoyed grilled meat from the street vendors, as well as a delicious meal in restaurant Tikal. Alausi is a worthwhile destination, even without going on the train.

Directly across from the bus station in the lively town center near the train station and Sunday Market. Staff was exceptionally accommodating. Breakfast was fresh and nutritious...fruit eggs and bread. We were the only gringos in the valley. Enjoy alausi!!! Thank you, hotel europa!!!
