The room was spacious, also the bathroom. The hotel is located next to the Wassertor, in front of fish stands and the promenade by the water. Both the breakfast and dinner at the hotel's restaurant were good.
Some reviewers have complained about the noise and heat; given the time of the year we left the windows closed, but I can see how in summer, with open windows, the street could get really noise, especially in the morning.

One more comment about the Altstadt apartment: check-in is not allowed until 4p.m. And you don't find that out til after you have paid. We had to while away an hour in a coffee shop, surrounded by our suitcases, as we had already arranged to arrive about 3, which has been the latest check-in time everywhere we've stayed before.

Fantastic town to visit, wonderful buildings and architecture, Beautiful and compact sea port with harbour tours and an amazing fish restaurant. Plenty of good restaurants but would highly recommend the restaurant 'Alte Schwede' in the market square. Several very large church buildings with amazing architecture. The town has a very interesting history which is reflected in buildings to be seen.

Enjoyed the harbour and the large cathedral. Loved all the little shops and the seagulls. My daughter and granddaughter took the harbour trip. As I am unsteady on my feet I found the round cobblestones annoying but nearby was always a flat stone way. Also enjoyed the conversation with a gentleman at the tiny museum who was a member of the gang who played in Soko Wismar....a favorite of mine.

Experience brick Gothic cathedrals & old houses with nearby harbor & fresh fish. Don't miss the Maritime heritage centre at Alter Hafen (Old Harbor) - excellent English/German explanations of Hanseatic League, & ship form "cog". Outing to Island Poel is very relaxing -see the 800 yr old church!

Wismar has the spirit of a patchwork city.
Wismar has the spirit of a patchwork city. You see the rich history of the city reflected in its buildings. You definitely need to go to the Schabbelhaus Museum to know more about it. There are plenty of places to go to eat. In my experience, there are a lot of nice places in the harbor, but I still miss some in downtown. Definitely a place to visit!

Downtown area is compact. One afternoon is enough to walk all streets. Wismar is popular for tourist. Restaurants were typically fully booked for both of our evenings - next time better to book in advance before arrival to Wismar. Based on advice from hotel we visited Hanse Sektkellerei Wismar, excellent place in historical cellar 10 metres below the ground but very short hours of opening. The production method is same as in Champagne - obviously outside Champagne they need to name it differently as "Traditionelle Flaschengärung"

Absolute outstanding Hotel. As a flight attendant I managed to stay in countless hotels around the world. The townhouse will set itself to the top list of competition, even with leading Hotels. Very friendly helpful personel at the reception as well as at the restaurant. You made our stay very nice and special. Thank you!
We slept there only one night, but the hotel is comfortable, close to the main road. Very nice and helpful staff. They have also billiard club where you can play.
