Niedermünster abbey also has square towers, while the Alte Kapelle’s most impressive feature is intricate gold interior detailing. A plaque outside a more modest house marks Oskar Schindler’s former home. Much grander is Schloss Thurn und Taxis, an 8th-century monastery converted to a noble residence. At the eastern end of a park encircling the historic center, there's a villa built for King Maximilian II of Bavaria. It overlooks riverboats cruising past a more outlandish royal creation, Donaustauf’s Walhalla monument, resembling a Greek temple.
