We picked Paderborn as a stopover as it was a convenient distance from our ferry port.
A modern town and not particularily attractive it does have a good selection of shops.
When the shops close the whole feel of the town changes,we felt uneasy just walking about, large groups drinking in the park and many beggars and street people, very different from our experience in other towns in Germany.

I'm a bit biased as my mother and grandmother are from Paderborn but I had not been there for quite a few years, so I wanted to see the Christmas market. That was amazing beautiful lighting great shopping loads of things to eat. You need to visit the Dome and other churches around the area as they are lovely, nothing like them in the UK. I will definately be going back there to see Libori in the summer. Lots of places to eat, lovely walk around the Paderquelle and the gardens

Paderborn has quite a variety of ethnic restaurants.
Paderborn has quite a variety of ethnic restaurants. The Indian cuisine is above average. There are plenty of bus stops with frequent stops. The buildings and architecture are beautiful. The parks are fairly clean with few bums and beggars. Seems like a nice family city. The public pools are clean and friendly. The underbelly seems a much smaller section of town than normal for the Ruhr region. Very above average overall!

The Alte Rezidenz cafe/diner is a short 5 minute walk on the high street. Nice food and drink, not expensive.
Backerie Lange is also near for breakfast or a coffee & cake.

The staff is super friendly and helpful. The hotel's location is very central, and we could very easily reach almost all the important spots and places to visit by just walking.
when we wanted to go to Heinz Nixdorf Museum we took a bus by walking for just 5 minutes and reached the place in only 15 mins.
They also have a cool offer, you can ask the cleaning service not to clean and in return, you can get a free drink from their fridge.
My surprise was on the positive side. The hotel appeared fresh and modern. Comfortable bed, spacious bathroom. The staff are friendly and helpful. The restaurant is excellent.
The hotel is a bit spread out from the city centre but the distances are short in this town so it was not really a problem. the bus lines are 10 min walk
Beautiful hotel in a quiet area despite being close to the motorway. Breakfast was good and the staff friendly, interested and welcoming. Would definitely come back if on this route again.
