If you’re visiting Dusseldorf in February, you’ll witness the bright parade of Carnival. If you visit in July, you can take part in the Largest Fair on the Rhine. No matter what time of year you visit you will find a city bustling with festivals, art, music and museums.
Much of the action occurs in the Old Town, otherwise known as the Longest Bar in the World due to the amount of cafes and bars serving a dark beer called “altbier”. The center was faithfully reconstructed according to the city’s foundation walls after the Second World War and offers a historical insight to the city.
Museums range in exhibitions from history at the Stadtmuseum, to fine art at Museum Kunst Palast and even to a museum dedicated to mustard. If shopping prevails over culture then head to the Königsallee, a picturesque strip of high-fashion shops set alongside a tree-lined canal.

A business and multicultural city, great for contacts and business meetings due to professional, very well-organized fairs. Visible cooperation between the fair and the city, e.g. with restaurants, special offers for fair guests. Moreover, there are many interesting places to see and visit, a lot of greenery. Very good connection from many places in Europe.

A great place to visit with excellent shopping.
A great place to visit with excellent shopping. The old town has lots of good restaurants and bars, with the Rhine Promenade a great place to eat, particularly in the summer. There are lots of parks and gardens to take a walk and relax in, along with the long Rhine Promenade. Take in the vista by visiting the Rhein Tower with views as far as Cologne on a clear day.
In winter the Christmas market is excellent and it is easy to visit nearby cities for other experiences. Get a Dusseldorf Card for free travel in the Dusseldorf area or a Dusseldorf Fan-card which covers as far as Cologne and Dortmund. This also gives free entry to the Aqua Zoo, well worth a visit, particularly if the weather is not so good.

I went there from Amsterdam to enjoy many different Japanese restaurants. It was a nice experience, but our trip did not work out too well. We faced train cancellations and delays, which extended our travel time from 3 to 5 hours each way. This might not be so bad if the trains were not as packed as they were, especially in Germany. The Japanese restaurants we visited were good, but not better than the ones in Amsterdam and the price tags were steep.
The highlight of our trip was visiting the EKO Haus, which is a traditional Japanese shrine with a Japanese garden. That place really teleports you to Japan, everything was very authentic. There is a shrine, a tea house, a Japanese garden and an exhibition to visit.

We arrived late and went to the Slia Thai for dinner close to the hotel. Dusseldorf is a lively city with plenty to do for all ages. Nice contrast between the Altstadt and the more modern shopping district. Christmas markets were getting into full swing giving a warm and friendly atmosphere.
