Good location near to bus and rail station and budget supermarket. Nice breakfast buffet. Having a small kitchen in my room for self-catering (the options to eat out in town are limited at times).
There are lots of hiking and biking opportunities in the area. Cross-country skiing would also be good but snow is unreliable these days at this altitude.
This charming family-run hotel lies in the village of Mandelholz, set in the scenic landscapes of the Upper Harz region. It offers rustic-style accommodation, free Wi-Fi and an attractive spa area.

Great place with wonderful owners. The room was very fresh and spotless.
Breakfast and dinner were both really good. I do enjoy that you need to order beforehand. The portions are very generous.
You sort of forget it's a hotel, but you get the feeling you've come to someone's home. I really enjoyed my stay and would come back!

I had a wonderdul time staying at the hotel. It was nice of the host to upgrade my room for free. I had a beautiful, scenic view from my room. The location of the hotel is also perfect, very accessible; the bus stop is just a 2 min walk from the hotel. Also, I really like it that the Schwimmbad is close to the hotel, it only took me ca. 8 mins walk going there. There's also a Fast food near the place which offers cheap but delicious burgers. Some minor concern though is the Wifi connection in the room that I stayed in-- sometimes, I would get disconnected.
Overall, I highly recommend the place and would be glad to be back. 🙂

Very charming and authentic guesthouse, with beautiful surroundings (forest, a stream, a small pond). We spent the day hiking, enjoying the views and quiet of the forest. The owners are very kind and welcoming, without overdoing it :). We will be back for sure.

There are lots of hiking and biking opportunities in the area. Cross-country skiing would also be good but snow is unreliable these days at this altitude. I did a circular walk to Tanne (nice farm shop and cafe) and Sorge. Be aware that there is a lot of deforestation in the Harz area due to bark beetle, so it can look a bit sad - hopefully better forest management in future will allow regrowth.
Also took a bus day trip to Quedlinburg. There is a regular bus service to many points and occasional services on the Harz rail system, e.g. to Wernigerode, Brocken, Nordhausen.
The options to eat out in town are limited at times. Pizza/pasta in the town is open most days and evenings.
