OREA Resort Horizont Šumava, hotel in Železná Ruda

OREA Resort Horizont Šumava is located on the southern slope of Pancíř Hill. It offers an indoor swimming pool and a terrace with panoramic views. Wellness facilities can be enjoyed free of charge.

The hotel is located in a beautiful region. Despite the fact that it was full of tourists, everything was very calm, organized and silent. We could rest very well without being disturbed. The Czech people are welcoming, respectful, friendly and utmost helpful. The food was fresh, tasty and we were served a variety of dishes every day. The hotel interior has a pleasant design with comfortable and big rooms, and it is spotless everywhere. It is perfect for families with children as there are specific activities and playgrounds, also two very friendly alpacas.

A nice village with both a beautiful Czech National Park and a German national park nearby, and you can start hiking (is for me going uphill in nature) or cross-country skiing within 10-15 minutes walking from where I stayed. It has a brewery hotel on top of a ski slope, not too far walking from the town center, for those who love hiking. It hosts a number of restaurants, and Asian and Thai massages are an option as well. It is also a good starting point for cycling in the two national parks. Public transport for the Sumava national park towards the east is mainly by bus, and in the summer, and trains go mainly north toward Plzen and south into Germany, from where the train mainly goes either south or west, and to the east the bicycle or the bus can be used. The historic twin station with the bordering German town has a nice restaurant with some nice beer on tap.

The bus stop enroute to Sumava National Park is about 500 metres away from the train station and has a frequency of every two hours during the season. The town has plenty of eateries with choice of local cuisine, Kebab corner and ever Viet cuisine. Cross Cafe was my haunt for coffee and quick snacks.

Very small, comfy town every better - village :) Few small food stores, one of them working until 22.00, most restaurants close at the same time. Food quality would recommend - cafe Snehurka, restaurant Ne Nadrazi. Do not recommend - restaurant Ostry (very low quality and high prices). Easy to move around on the bicycles, many paved tourist routs almost all buses have bicycles trailers. Great attractions: Devil's and Black lakes (Certovo and Cerne jezero), mountains Spichak and Pancir, any tourist rout around worth it to walk :)

Unfortunately the weather was not too much in favour of skiing. We managed only few last days. Also, we were welcomed by a storm and hotel stayed without electricity one night, the very night when my son was sick so it was a nightmare trying to cope. but that was not in power of the staff. if not the place is ok, there is another horizoont hotel nearby relly lovely with a great kid's club, I came to teach my 4y old ski. I would definitelly recommend for that purpose to others. there are few skiing schools in neighbourhood with good reviews.

Great buffet breakfast included, it takes place in the restaurant where you can also have a good lunch or dinner. Many nice walking trails are starting directly from the hotel. We got an upgrade of the room to a suite with separate room with sofa, TV and fridge, lots of space! Behind the hotel is a large parking lot that is free for guests (just validate the card with reception). For electric cars there's a public charger at P1, which is 1km down the road and you can take a nice forest trail there, just bring a torch in the dark.

Stayed 3 nights at Orea Resort Horizont in the executive room with balcony. We also went for the half board. The staff at the reception were awesome, very helpful and friendly. The room was clean, cozy, with a beautiful view and nicely renovated. Due to covid, there was no daily cleaning, unless requested, but we did not need it. Wellness was alright. We enjoyed the sauna, steam room, and relaxation room. The staff there was nice too. As for the food, we were happy with breakfast, alright for a 4* hotel.

Stayed at many places in Zelezna Ruda, this is one of the best. Super clean rooms, great breakfast and friendly hosts. Ask for a specialty coffee from their espresso machine, it's a minimum cost but absolutely worth it. Loved that we had a secured area to keep our e-bikes and our own private sauna was a plus+ Highly recommend and will most definitely return!

Perfect accommodation in the center of the little town of Železná Ruda. The host was very friendly, let us keep our luggage in the place before and after the check in/out since we needed to pack light to go to the mountains. Large shared kitchen and great communication with the host also appreciated.
