I don't think the place deserves the low score (anymore). One needs to see that hotel in perspective. It was meant to host the ice hockey players and it still does. However, considering the age of the hotel, they are trying to renew it step by step. The spacious room looked freshly painted, had nice good-quality furniture, and a new carpet and curtains. I saw in the hotel many new doors that were waiting for their installation. For the window not closing properly, they put a sign up to apologize. I find that thoughtful. The bed was comfortable. The location was excellent and the price was so low. You usually would get only a hostel room with a shared bathroom for that money. I stayed two nights and it was completely OK. Oh and last but not least Lenka, the very friendly receptionist!

Beautiful "hidden" jewel which definitely wort a visit.
Beautiful "hidden" jewel which definitely wort a visit. Visit the castel-area near the cathedral with its lovely colorful old buildings perfectly restored. Go at least once to the "Bono Publico" staircase which connects the old upper part of the city to the lower one: the staircase (an empire monument) can play music, and before starting climbing the stairs up or down, you can choose from a panel your favourite classical "track". The upper part of the city is full of traditional restaurants, pubs, pastry-shops and cafés where you can get to know the "real" czech cuisine and atmosphere. Finally, take a walk in the very large and fantastic green areas near the rivers Elbe and Orlice: one of the parks hosts an ancient beautiful church made entirely of wood!

This town is a hidden gem.
This town is a hidden gem. I come up there a couple times a year for business and I really like the place. Beautiful old town, good restaurants, and something cool off the beaten path. By the way, everybody knows the Czech Republic has good beer but it has really great food as well.

A modern buzzing city with a lots of history and natural beauty to offer. If you are on a business trip or leisure, there is always plenty going on. You can spend your time by relaxing walk around the two rivers that meet at Hradec. Other options would be visiting historical places inside and outdoor. Or prefer art, theathre or music? Help yopurself! Plenty great restaurants and bars to visit tool. Great beet frol local microbreweries. And if you have enough of the town head to explore the surrounding countryside. If you love mountain ranges or lakes and rivers surely you will find plenty of these to enjoy!

This place surprised me, and in a great way!
This place surprised me, and in a great way! It is not swarming with tourists, the air is that of a small town (not that sleepy but close enough), the city center and most importantly the Bono Publico were lovely!
We spent only 1 night but you can easily spend 2 if you want to check out the museums as well.
There are some cute coffee shops to try and a great cocktail bar with great cocktails and service (Blind Lion for the ones interested). Overall I enjoyed the atmosphere of the town and I would definitely recommend it to anyone, the prices are also cheaper than in most touristy cities.
