Costa Rica is wonderful and the central park in Liberia was a really nice place to stop and have lunch. The park has a statue commemorating the actions of Juan Santamaria, Costa Rica's national hero. It is a great story detailing human courage and how important one man can be in the greater scheme of things.

It´s a well developed city at the heart of Guanacaste. You can find all the main businesses and stores in the country. It´s also conveniently located near the main tourist attractions like Rincon de la Vieja national park, La Leona waterfall hike, Santa Rosa National Park and the Papagayo peninsula beaches among others.

I used Liberia as a transfer point to get into southern Nicaragua. It was a far better option for me than flying into Managua. Liberia was great for that reason. I did not explore beyond the Liberia hotel location. I thought that my hotel was pricey for what I got-- $80 for a 3 star average hotel. HOWEVER, the hotels out by the airport are as expensive ($150-170 U.S.) as a San Francisco airport hotel. There is a shuttle charge of about $30 to get from Liberia to hotel (about 9 miles). Take a Uber for $11 U.S. and they drop you a few hundred yards from airport. I know that people need to make money, but I have a budget too--Uber was the way to go. I hear that Uber is not legal, but it worked for me.

There is no reason to go to Liberia.
There is no reason to go to Liberia. It’s a transit point: to lovely beaches to the west; mountains and jungle to the east; and the Nica border to the north. That being said, the Chinese restaurant & the Indian restaurant (Masala) in the center of town were both very tasty! The international airport, which is close by brings in tourists traveling in the north of Costa Rica.

The streets are not marked so you can have a hell of a time finding your hotel if it is relatively small or unknown. It is close to a market where you can have breakfast. it is convenient to the airport.

Guillermo and his family are very welcoming and friendly. Location is only 10 minutes by foot from the Bus Municipal to go to Peñas Blancas and also reachable by public bus from Liberia Airport.
Cute house with a nice patio. Rooms are basic but good enough for a couple of nights. There was even air conditioning.

The staff were all excellent. The hotel is pretty clean, everywhere. The room had plenty of natural light coming in through the window. Location couldn't be better, if your goal is to be close to the airport, particularly since they offer free shuttle service. There are two shops in the hotel, where you can buy clothes and last-minute souvenirs.
We booked at the last minute, after my companion had a very bad flight to Liberia. The staff at the hotel were all very kind, providing a wheelchair for our temporary use. Similarly, the staff at Liberia Airport were also very kind. And whoever prepared the pasta with pesto in the hotel restaurant is a very good cook!
Location is very convenient if you stay here for a first/last night after/before your flight from Liberia Airport (which was my case). The staff is super friendly and the pool area is well taken care of. Breakfast is ok. Good for one night stay.
Dodero Hostel is a good option for a short stay in Liberia. It’s conveniently located near the city center and bus stop, and my room was clean and cozy.
