The staff was fabulous! The grounds were immaculate.

The staff was fabulous! The grounds were immaculate. Saw some birds in common area. Food delivered to room was pretty good. Hot. What killed us was the room was freezing with no heat or space heater or extra blanket. There was a large very cold bathroom with absolutely no hot water. Wires sticking out of the shower head. No counter or table to place toiletries. Very dark and dank. A small outdoor light fixture with probably 40 watt bulb was way above the tiny sink. No other lighting. No window light. And nowhere comfortable to sit with room. Slat wood bench on front porch and in room. But this location was at better pricing value than a few others we stayed at. Overall, if there had been heat and some warm water I would have doubled my opinion.

Visit Irazú then head to a hike in Prusia and on to Turrialba, stay at the Turrialtico for an incredible view and value (and Posole and jalapeño steak,) then book a raft trip with Econaturales on the Pacuare River, ask for Michael and Eduardo as your guides, they keep you in the raft and out of the river, you’ll be happy and tired so stay another night to eat, drink, and recover- our mistake was hopping in the car and getting back on the road after 27km on the Pacuare, a perfect day!

Unfortunately, my stay in Cartago was very short as I just needed to stay one night. However, it was worth it. I loved the place and the people. The breakfast was amazing; I felt like home, having it at a family table, surrounded by beautiful people and amazing conversations. I would definitely recommend it and will stay here again, if the future brings me back to Cartago. Thank you so much to Damaris (what a lovely human being!). Wish you all the best. Saludos y la espero en Portugal ;) un abrazo a Vero también.

Nice and in my opinion romantic wooden houses under the Arazú volcano (about 30 minutes drive to the top). We had a simple but sufficient breakfast there. Everything as presented. Houses have beautiful overview down to the valley and a Cartago city, expecially in the night. Communication with the receptionist was a bit complicated because of language barrier, but with the aid of Google we managed it, and she help us a lot with the volcano NP entry reservation.

Staying at Iyok Ami was a great experience. The hotel has its own hiking trails into the cloud forest, so there is no need to go to the Los Quezales national park. We really enjoyed hiking here! The dinner was homemade and delicious. Yes, it gets very cold at night in the area, but the hotel has a fireplace and plenty of blankets. And the breakfast with a view is just incredible.

Nothing. The rooms looked NOTHING like the photos and the hotel was very dirty and unkempt. We felt unsafe in that area of town.
