Breakfast was amazing & we booked last minute with no problem. The property had lovely flowers and a cute tunnel type walkway to the dining area.

This property was amazing and truly a hideaway. The room was incredible, the bathroom was clean and spacious, the outdoor shower was a beautiful, romantic touch. Each room is nestled behind well manicured landscaping where you can sit on the patio and feel like you are in the rainforest. The pool was nice and spacious with three jacuzzis and the gym was nicely equipped and very clean. We absolutely loved the delicious breakfast buffet and the amazing service provided by the staff. Their green juice was yummy and if you love spicy sauces, ask for the salsa picante (made there) and Lizano (can be bought at the market in CR). The staff helped us purchase tickets to the Rio Celeste waterfall and it was everything I expected and more. This was absolutely a treat to stay at the Hideaway Rio Celeste. We ate at the local Soda Irma (the plates are huge so beware) and the Blue River Brewing Co while we were there - both were great.

The property is beautiful and the staff are so welcoming. The meals are authentic and delicious. We did the tour and learned all about the process of making chocolate. Starting the mornings off in the hammock with coffee was the perfect start to the day.

Super fun two-night stay in this little neighborhood oasis. Owners are terrific and kind people, delicious breakfast and super filling (was not expecting that, thank you!). As others have mentioned, we sampled their homemade hot chocolate and the owner took us around on a little night tour of the gardens - especially loved seeing the sleeping birds all tucked in among the plants. Room, clean and comfy.

We drove from SJO to La Fortuna, to Bijagua and then to Puerto Viejo. We stayed for two night in each place and I probably would have loved to stay 3 night to have two full days in each location. Internet service was in and out while driving through the smaller areas (even if you pay T-Mobile for the Int'l service). We paid for a hotspot from our car rental (Adobe Rental Car) which was helpful to always be connected. Be sure to watch for the narrowing "one-lane" bridges, the potholes in some areas, and the locals on motorcycles. It's best to not drive at night if you are not familiar with the roads because some areas do not have lights and it can start raining at any time. We went into town (maybe 15 minutes away) to buy drinks and snacks from the market and ate at local spots. Soda Irma serves huge plates with this incredible pickled onions and jalapenos. We also enjoyed the local brewery, Blue River Brewery - you have to order the Chifrijo bowl.

The location within the valley was great, with short walks through the neighborhood to other areas full of birds. There was a very good restaurant about 100 meters away and a well furnished kitchen.
The beds were comfortable and everything was very clean, and sitting on the verandah drinking our morning coffee or a glass of wine in the afternoon listening to and watching the birds was very relaxing and pleasant.
There were panederias, restaurants and markets within easy walking distance of the property.

Absolutely gorgeous area and a must-see for nature lovers!
Absolutely gorgeous area and a must-see for nature lovers! Tenorio National Park was wonderful, although quite crowded, so get there as early as possible. I highly recommend the hanging bridges trail at the Heliconias lodge because it was incredible and hardly anyone was there. We also got to see toucans on the road up there.

The town is essentially a series of businesses along Rte 6, a major road heading North/South. It’s about 1 mile in length. Beautiful vistas coming from the south and heading between the 2 volcanoes of Tenorio and Miravalles. The town is not picturesque but it’s surroundings are. Besides hiking to the waterfall and the lagoon of Rio Celeste, which is an amazing color, there’s not a lot to do (or not a lot to do that you haven’t done elsewhere in CR). For bird watchers, Cano Negro Wildlife Refuge and its boat tours on the river and lake come highly recommended. 2 nights of accommodations is good for most people. We stayed at Finca La Amistad, a working cacao farm, which I highly recommend. Bucolic surroundings, great owner and staff, nice accommodations and a nice chocolate tour makes it a great place to stay.

Great little hike, we were happy to have Jose, as our guide.
Great little hike, we were happy to have Jose, as our guide. He was very knowledgeable and fun. We only wished his english or our spanish were better! We saw lovely birds, including scarlet macaws, a bat, monkeys, lizards. The park has 2 access points and the unofficial one was better as it was more natural and you didn't hear traffic noise.

Be prepared for daily rain squalls even in "dry" season.
Be prepared for daily rain squalls even in "dry" season. Great cloud-forest hiking, especially to Catarata Bijagua--not many wild animals, but plenty of beautiful forests, rushing river, and waterfalls. In Bijagua, Restaurante/Pizzeria El Barrigon -- popular with locals as well as tourists -- has good-value casados.
The staff were all extremely helpful, from the sweet young guy on the front desk who wants to be a footballer to the lovely cleaning lady who helped me out with a wine glass, and the wonderful grounds keepers who made sure I got the most amazing experience seeing a wild white faced monkey 🐒 🙈 having breakfast. As for food, the waiter at the restaurant next door makes you feel very looked after. Also great location for Rio Celeste, and beautiful views.
The house is located in a quiet area surrounded by a beautiful garden with many different fruits which our lovely host Diego showed to us when we arrived at the house. Diego was so friendly and welcoming and he gave us many tips for the area. The house is small but super cosy and it has everything that you need, including fridge and a coffee maker. the location is perfect for exploring attractions in the area including Rio Celeste and Sloth tours.
Itza is an amazing host! We arrived way passed the check-in time due to public transport delays and Itza stayed up to welcome us with a snack and keys. Much appreciated! Also we got loads of useful tips and tricks on exploring Rio Celeste. I would absolutely stay here again
Fantastic place, very clean and peaceful. Close to Rio Celeste (just a short walk). The owner is very nice, we stopped for one night only, but we could leave our car parked there the next day while we were visiting the national park
