It's so comfy overall, the room is big and clean and the staff is super friendly. Many tours can be booked from the reception and at least the rafting tour that we booked was awesome! The rooftop pool and sauna are a nice touch.

Stop scrolling through Booking, this is the perfect spot.
Outside of town, but perfectly located on the main road to all the best adventure activities so it is super easy to catch a bus or taxi and the staff are always happy to help whether you're looking for public or private transportation. The restaurant on site is wonderful and there are a few other food options on the same complex.
The rooms are very modern, spacious and extremely well kept. The bathroom comes well stocked with toiletries and their signature scent is really lovely, gosh I miss it! Everything is well ventilated so you can leave your gear to dry after watersports or if you would prefer to have it cleaned immediately, the laundry service is super quick and very affordable.
Overall a really great spot at face value but the Trip Monkey staff are what really makes it special! Joss speaks perfect English and gives phenomenal recommendations. Give him an idea of what you like and he will have the perfect itinerary for you in seconds. There are a lot of great activities available through the hotel, all of which he has tried himself so just know the recommendations are coming straight from the heart! As an added bonus, you can pay for most of them through the hotel as well so you do not have to worry about carrying extra cash exploring. Fernando is an absolute sweetheart as well and always eager to help.
The Santander region is extremely beautiful with something for everyone and Trip Monkey del Río is the perfect base camp. Stay as long as you can, this is the perfect place to make lifelong memories with the most wonderful people ☺️

San Gil was a really enjoyable town despite not doing adventure tours. We loved the park for the birds and red squirrels. The town square was interesting to sit, with good restaurants and bars nearby.

San Gil is very turistic and influenced by that.
San Gil is very turistic and influenced by that. Excellent opportunities for recreation and extreme sports, but the horrid traffic can impact travel. The main route from Bogota' to Bucaramanga goes right through it and can really congest the streets. These are old "horse" cart roads in town and the traffic can be "impressive" and difficult to manage. Quaint charm with amenities, a commercial mall and plenty of food and drink around the central park.

San Gil as a town is not particularly interesting.
San Gil as a town is not particularly interesting. It's for the adventure activities that one comes. We went rafting on Río Suárez with Colombia Rafting Expediciones and I can only recommend them - professional, well-organised team that guides you through the Class 5 rapids while keeping safety always in mind.

We were only here for a day. We went rafting on the river, and visited El Parque Natural Gallineral. Pretty park and pretty river. I'm sure there is more to do in San Gil, but that's all we had time for.

The area around San Gil is great for just about everything.
The area around San Gil is great for just about everything. We had a car so we were able to tour the roads in and around San Gil and it is beautiful, mountainous country. The Cuevas del Vacas is a must see but not for the faint of heart ( we are part of the over 60 crowd and thoroughly enjoyed it)

Probably the best hostel we have been from Chile to Panama! Hospitable atmosphere and incredibly nice and helpfull owner Johana with her family made our stay so nice! (ask her about Tejo game!) The room was well equiped, clean and comfortable. It could be seen the owners put significant amount of effort into making the place cozy and clean! Also the shared areas were really aesthetic and pleasant to hang out in. Location is very central as well. We will deffinitely come back if were in San Gil again! Gracias por todo, Johana!
Friendly staff, who helped us with everything we needed. Amazing quiet place in the middle of the nature with a beautiful garden with many birds and a nice swimming pool. They offer a Turkish steam bath service, which was really relaxing. The garden offers many places to relax. Many restaurants in San Gil have a delivery service to this hostel. The surrounding is great for walking and birdwatching. We had a private kitchen next to our room. The hotel dog is the sweetest dog ever!
