Lodge was located within close proximity to all sites of Puerto Nariño (though it’s a small town). Breakfast was delicious. Able to book tours through lodge. Host was responsive to messages.

Our stay was immeasurably improved by John Jairo who looked after us at the hotel. He ferried us back and forth from the centre, cooked meals, made coffee and took us on fantastic tours around the Amazon to see the wildlife. He had a wonderful laid back attitude and we were able to enjoy the stunning surroundings for as long as we liked. He also had excellent knowledge of the difference wildlife and bird species. The communication from the owner was very unhelpful and we would have been quite lost without John Jairo so a massive thanks to him!

Staff is very friendly and we enjoyed most of the activities experienced under the recommendations and guidance of Maria and Manuel, the owners, namely: fishing experience on the Amazonas river, dolphin sighting, crafting our basket and bracelets with an artisan of the village.

We stayed as two friends for 5 nights and could not recommend this place more. We felt extremely welcomed, Sara and German were excellent hosts and together with their sons Calet and Miguel and their daughter in law Ruth they made sure we had an excellent stay. They accommodated my vegetarian diet with no problems and all our meals were delicious and healthy home cooked food. They even organised our transfer from Leticia and Ruth collected us from the airport.
They made a full programme of activities for us, it was varied and we saw lots of wildlife as well as some insight into local life.
The room was very comfortable, huge beds with mosquito nets and even a fridge in the room to keep your drinks cold. They provided drinking water too for us whenever we needed. The common area was lovely and stays cool throughout the day with hammocks to relax in.
We stayed for one night in the jungle in hammocks with our guide Israel who was extremely knowledgable and cooked us a wonderful dinner.
Highly highly recommended to stay here!!

What a wonderful location in the heart of the forest, waking up each morning to watch monkeys and birds in the forest. Loved the adventure of walking through the forest and canoing across a river to get to the house. Excellent hosts who paid attention to details and always looked after us very well. Meals that were always plentiful and fresh. A lovely family who all worked together to make our stay a special one. There is no power or internet so it was candlelit dinners and early to bed each night, enabling me to make the most of the cooler mornings for searching for wildlife. The double bed was very comfortable and I appreciated the quality insect net that meant I didn't have to worry about insects during the night. Great that they provided good quality gumboots for everyone if needed. Don't forget to bring your torch - for light in your room at night, as well as for exploring the wildlife outside at night. The boat trips in high quality boats were a highlight providing cool relief from the tropical humidity while spotting wildlife along the way. Appreciated them taking the time to slow down to look at wildlife along the way to places, and the family's knowledge of the local plants and wildlife were fabulous.

I was impressed with my room, it offered a sizeable double bed and the accomodation itself overlooked the Amazon river. where you can admire the sunrise and sunset. The staff were super helpful & friendly. The Maloka in the center of the accommodation offered the perfect space to browse the handmade artesanias, as well as enjoy a meal and meet local people and travellers alike. I would go back in a heartbeat.
Love Puerto Narino! Friendly , beautiful Amazon village, safe. Great village to be based for daily Amazon trips- night, river or overnight jungle treks. Easy to walk in town - no cars or motorbikes, clean and great restaurants

July 2022. A special place. Great relaxed vibe.
July 2022. A special place. Great relaxed vibe. Locals friendly. Very safe to walk around.
I’d recommend 3-4 nights to get full experience.
Lots of cheap hostel options. We stayed at Refugio Maiku - recommended, but one the pricier options (US$25/day for a private room with b/r).
A handful of options to eat. Most restaurants are clustered in one area. Margarita is biggest and has a good lunch buffet (US$5). Dona Luz and Rogelio (cheapest) are also recommended. At night, there is a parrilla in the street where you can get cheap eats. There are a couple of basic grocery stores facing the river where you get water, beer and other essentials. One is open until 11pm.
Most tours (“actividades”) you’ll want a guide.
Depending on the water level, the tours are very different. I’d recommend a night hike the first day you arrive. Tarapoto is a must. The trip to San Antonio reserva on the Peruvian side and hike to a ginormous tree is also beautiful. We didn’t have time to go, but heard great things about the hike in Parque Natural Amacayacu. Each tour we did was between $12 -$25 but can vary based on group size.
When you arrive, you can go to the information booth and get a map and information on tours.
You can walk on your own to the Wochine reservation on your own (25 minutes) and see the pirarucu and caimans. You can also walk to Altos de Aguila and see monkeys and parrots (15-20 minutes) Lots of people will offer to be your guide, but best to find someone recommended beforehand or to ask at your hostel. Brandon was our guide for a few tours and is recommended.
Tickets for the ferry back to Leticia is behind the malecon. You can reserve a place the day before you travel.

Honestly one of my favourite things about Puerto Nariño was staying at Eware Refugio. The location was amazing and we could see dolphins from the property! Best activities were kayaking at sunset with dolphins around us, seeing sloths and macaws in Peru, Tarapoto Lake (incredible) and a caiman spotting night tour!

What a magical place where people go about their lives amid the jungle. Loved walking the streets, sitting on a restaurant porch by the river watching pink dolphins and spending days exploring the jungle. I want to go back!!!
