During the last night of our stay at Hotel Islabela, the whole restaurant/lobby caught fire. An employee and a local woke us up in the middle of the night and we had to pack up all our stuff and leave the bungalow as soon as possible, which needless to say was quite stressful. After we left, we were forced to spent several hours outside. Eventually, we were evacuated to another hotel on the island, only to find dozens of gas tanks of the Islabela restaurant laying around unsupervised and literally just a couple of meters apart from the place where the fire had originated. It was then that we realized that we had been very lucky to get away unscathed as basically the whole island could have blown up as a result of this fire. Eventually, we were back in a bed around 4.00 AM. This was an unpleasant experience for us, but we understand that it was even more so for the employees and the local community, who we want to thank once again for their help and wish them a speedy recovery.

The staff were amazing. The location was perfect. The island was unreal. Also, it’s a bonus that you are the first people off the ferry from Cartagena and the last ones they collect on the way back, which means minimal time sitting around on the ferry.

The location was absolutely amazing. Great place for a little getaway far away from big crowd and noise. Nice spots for snorkeling around the island.
The staff was very welcoming, helpful and responsive. Food was great, super fresh and tasty. We were celebrating my girlfriend's bday during our stay and the staff organised little, cute surprise and private dinner on the beach just for us

The service and the food were good.
The organisation of the staff was outstanding, they were all friendly and supportive.
We loved both of the booked bungalows. They were clean and comfy.
We really enjoyed being in contact with the locals through different activities: luminous plankton, eco walk and visit to the mangroves, snorkelling, riding the bicycle.

I stayed here with my sister over christmas day and boxing day (morning/afternoon) and it was amazing. There were different activities that we could easily book at the front desk which took place with the ecological guide, and we could pay on a card. They were reasonably priced at 75,000COP per person. These included snorkelling with many different types of fish among coral, and swimming amongst bioluminescent plankton! Good to bear in mind the latter is nothing like the pictures - it wasn't bright blue but more like little stars once you put your head under the water, but was just as amazing! Front desk was friendly and helpful. This was an amazing place to relax with sun loungers and a shaded area right by the sea, I saw some other reviews mention lack of a beach but I actually prefer it this way. Overall there were lots of different places you could relax. They also had a kayak which was free to use whenever! The room was also amazing, much bigger than we had expected from the booking details, decorated really nicely with a calming vibe and an outdoor shower! It was a short walk from the main building past the area where the restaurant was, and it was actually quite nice to be a bit away from the main area but still close. Overall an amazing stay, amazingly priced and just what we wanted :)
