The hotel staff are very friendly and helpful. They arranged a taxi for me to see the Las Lajas at 9pm. The room is spacious. The room is basic but very clean. The room had no air conditioning. The night when I check in was a little bit cool in the town. Fortunately, there is hot shower and the blanket is warm enough.

Ipiales is about 20 mins driving from Las Lajas which was named as the most beautiful church in South America. After I wend there, I agreed that it is very beautiful and the design is unique.
Ipiales is also 10 mins driving from the border to Ecuador. I had no issue to cross the land border in 15 mins.

There is nothing in Ipiales. It's a dirty place, with shady characters that you wouldnt miss much by skipping this place completely. However, it's THE border town so you have to go here. While you're here make the best of it! Definitely go to Las Lajas Sanctuary during your stay. If Ipiales is a 0, Las Lajas Sanctuary is a 10!

We had a good visit with great views of river/falls at the sanctuary, and especially enjoyed the gondola that saved us walking uphill back to taxis but pricey at $7 pp. The mall was nice (Grand Plaza) with a good food court.
