During my recent visit to Cartagena for cosmetic surgery, I encountered significant challenges regarding the handling of my food orders. Due to my recovery, it was difficult for me to go up and down to retrieve my deliveries. On more than one occasion, I contacted reception in advance to inform them of an expected food delivery, but despite this, the staff refused to bring it to my room. After waiting an extended period of time, I decided to go to the lobby myself to inquire about the status of my order. To my surprise, I was informed that my food had been sitting there for over 30 minutes. Meanwhile, the staff appeared to be more focused on socializing to each other than addressing the needs of guests. This lack of attention to customer service was concerning and disappointing, especially considering the nature of my stay.

When the Spanish founded the city in 1533, the region had already been inhabited for thousands of years. It became an important port for the Spanish gold and a significant political centre. Echoes of those times can be seen throughout the historic centre, in the city walls, the San Felipe de Barajas Castle, and the colourful streets and colonial squares. Some of the best hotels in Cartagena de Indias can be found here.

What a cool place with amazing food and drink choices, many on rooftops! Alquimico, El Baron, Townhouse, the list goes on! Taxis were easy. Convenient from the airport. Beautiful scenery. If you don't let the people on the street trying to sell you things or rap at you bother you and just embrace it, you should have a great time!

Cartagena is great if you know what you want.
Cartagena is great if you know what you want.
The city is a little like a drunk lover. A little loud, a little rowdy but you know you will have a good time. If you want to have a fun party type experience, enjoying music and local culture, parties and festive atmosphere - It's great.
If you want peace and quiet. Look elsewhere.
It's the Las Vegas of Latin America. So you will be approached by all sorts trying to sell you something Especially if you look like a clueless gringo.
But if you are a little humble, respectful and take the time - you will meet some very special people.

My boyfriend & I stayed in Cartagena for 3 nights, 4 days. 1 night in the "Walled City" & then 2 nights in Getsemani. We are in our late 20's, so we preferred the Getsemani area more, due to it being more "hip", "lively", "cultured". I would certainly recommend staying in both areas though to see which one you like best! We went on 2 walking tours, which explained a lot of Cartagena's history & gave you a better understanding of the city. The town is super easy to walk - which is what we loved as well. The architecture, people, culture, and colors/brightness is everywhere in this city! Highly recommend staying here for a long extended weekend if given the opportunity!

Beach is ok. No shade unless you hire umbrella/chairs.
Beach is ok. No shade unless you hire umbrella/chairs. Limited/no coffee cafes. Very long beach. Sea is quite strong waves. Lots of restaurants along the side. Too many young chasing you to wind kite, surf etc, also every restaurant server chasing you to eat.

Management was very nice on check in. Very easy.
Management was very nice on check in. Very easy. Great location in the center of everything. Pictures for the two bedroom were not realistic. There are no windows! Very quiet though -and Clean.
For the price, I expected more. Small in size.
We also had issues with no hot water the first night. Management fixed the issue for day two.
It was ok. Would not recommend the two bedroom. I am sure the other rooms with windows were better.

Very good location of the hotel, in a very quite street but close to all important sites. Extremely comfortable room, big, bright, with nice balcony, extremely comfortable beds and pillows, nice bathroom, really boutique style, because the hotel has only few rooms and guests are treated like very special persons. Breakfast served personally. The hotel staff is increadibly kind and helpful and friendly. Special thanks to Mr John and Jeimy for kindest and professional service and Mrs Luisa for mouthwatering breakfast.
Our stay in Casa India Catalina was perfect! The location is fantastic, the colonial style building is impressive and it has everything is need it to spend a few days in Cartagena de Indias.
The facilities and fourniture in the room are a bit old but functional.
The staff is very friendly and the breakfast is tasty.
This is a beautiful boutique hotel in the heart of the Old city. The staff are extremely attentive and polite. They were available to help with any request we asked, and we were always made to feel at home. The food is very good and the cocktails are great too.
Nice little boutique hotel not too far from the old city centre. Although the swimming pool is small it was so nice to be able to cool down in the pool after exploring the city. The rooms are clean and have air-conditioning.
