The design of the place and room is beautiful, so elegant and nicely done. Cleanliness is top notch, there’s also a washing machine available other than the usual hotel amenities and equipment so that’s a plus. The staff there was very helpful and friendly. Location wise is fantastic. There are shopping centres, malls, massage center, bars and lots of restaurants and eateries withing walking distance. All in all, this is a recommended place to stay when you’re at Xining

Holiday Inn Xining Hot-Spring, an IHG Hotel, hotel in Xining

Set in Xining, 15 km from Nanchan Temple, Holiday Inn Xining Hot-Spring, an IHG Hotel offers accommodation with a shared lounge, free private parking, a restaurant and a bar.

Very spacious, clean and comfortable rooms. Staff were polite and helpful, even though I didn't speak Mandarin. I thought the breakfast had enough variety. I can't comment on the hot spring facilities or distance from sites as I only slept here, due to arriving late after a long transit, and leaving early the following morning!

Wanda Vista Xining, hotel in Xining

Featuring a grand dining hall and swimming pool, Wanda Realm Xining is just steps from Xining Wanda Shopping Plaza and a 15-minute drive from Xining West Railway Station.

This hotel was almost perfect. The room size is good, with a nice bathroom with big bath tub. All rooms are on high floors, so you get a great view of the city - even if the cityscape isn't a particularly pretty one. There's an excellent breakfast with a mix of western food and Chinese food, including noodle stations, pancake stations, etc. I never expect hotels in China to speak English, especially not somewhere so few foreigners visit like Xining, but was pleasantly surprised to discover that most staff did speak English to a good level. They also gave us good local restaurant recommendations. I didn't get a chance to use the gym or pool, but had a peak round the corner and was impressed by the quality of the facilities. I don't think you'll find many five star hotels that are so affordable.

The Manager is wonderful. we connected through WeChat so that he could share information and locations of everything I needed. Due to renovations of the restaurant there was no meals but the area is central to excellent eating choices. I will stay here always if I come back to Xining to stay. The staff but particularly the Manager was fantastic!

Remarkably good value. Don't be put off by the ugly building it is in. It's a warm and friendly place on the inside. lots of interesting little shops and eateries are nearby. And getting taxis to the sights too far to walk to is quick and easy

Xining is a beautiful city squeezed down two river valleys...

Xining is a beautiful city squeezed down two river valleys between mountains. Just outside of town, the Kumbum Monastery is a highlight of many historic and religious sites. There are multiple exciting and beautiful destinations for day trips in varied landscapes. To the north there is the Huzhu Beishan Forest Park on the other side of a spectacular drive over a mountain pass. To the south we enjoyed a three night stay in Guide on the mighty Yellow River. The city and surrounding countryside is inhabited by a number of co-existing ethnic communities that remind us of the area's history as a border city and trading city. To the west are the famous high altitude lakes.

Get it while you can: the gateway to the ancient Silk Road,...

Get it while you can: the gateway to the ancient Silk Road, before it is destroyed by Chinese central government "progress" and the Belt-and-Road Initiative. Wonderful Islamic culture. Hope it lasts! Tibetan culture abounds as well. Pray for them.

Worth visiting the Tibetan Museum of Traditional Medicine...

Worth visiting the Tibetan Museum of Traditional Medicine and the longest Thangka painting in the world. It was a 25 min taxi ride from the Lete. The staff never heard of it despite the fact it was listed in Trip Advisor and Lonely Planet.

This has to have been the most enjoyable hotel stay in a 60 year lifetime of world travel and many hundreds of hotel bed nights. Apart from the excellent facilities and very comfortable room it was the extraordinary helpfulness and generosity of the reception staff that made this short stay in Xining so memorable. We are indebted to Ning Tian, Wen Zheng, Ninh Chul and all the rest of the hotel's reception team for their kindness and help to this language challenged septuagenarian couple in their all too short stay in Xining.

The female staff at the hotel was exceptionally accommodating. She efficiently arranged for my pre-ordered mails upon my arrival in XiNing, and provided thorough guidance on commuting to the train station and to nearby markets for shopping clothes and fresh produce. Moreover, she graciously upgraded my room without any additional cost.
