Howard Johnson Paragon Hotel Beijing Central, hotel in Beijing

The Howard Johnson Paragon Hotel Beijing is situated in Beijing's East Chang'an Avenue, opposite and a 5-minute walk from Beijing Railway Station (also the subway station).

The location is just opposite Beijing Train Station (北京站, not 北京南站), The building is located at strategic location. The room is clean and new, the housekeeping are good. (But my boy lost a golden stick in the room, probably he placed near to the dustbin , but not inside the dustbin). I notice they always polish their lobby marble, have a team of very hardworking and good house keepers. Reception area - there are a few very helpful staff there, thanks to 石先生,and 白子民先生 who are also in charge in the concierge。 Both of them are very helpful when we ask for the directions and places of interest in the City. The female manager is very helpful too。

FAQs about hotels in Beijing

From Chinese Dynasties to Cultural Dynamics

A world-renowned gem, sprawling Beijing has magnificent monuments and peaceful parks. At its heart is the world’s largest square - Tiananmen, surrounded by important museums and the amazing Forbidden City. This 15th-century, walled complex of palaces neighbours Jingshan Park and Beihai Park with its imperial garden.

Opposite Tiananmen Square is the ultra-modern National Centre for Perfoming Arts, a beacon of the city’s culture so impressively displayed at the opening and closing ceremonies of the 2008 Beijing Olympics in the Bird’s Nest Stadium.

To its east is the UNESCO World-Heritage listed Summer Palace, a lakeside retreat of emperors, while also UNESCO listed is the grand Temple of Heaven in Chongwen district, where remnants of Ming dynasty city walls are visible. Nearby are several hutongs, narrow alleys whose traditional architecture contrasts with wider, modern roads including Beijing Financial Street, the city's business area.

The most popular Beijing shopping street is Wangfujing, and other must-see sights include the giant pandas at Beijing Zoo and the Great Wall of China, an easy day trip from Beijing.

As you would expect from the capital of the world’s most populous country, there are a good number of 5-star hotels in Beijing on Booking.com, mainly in the Dongcheng and Chaoyang districts. There are also several hotels near Beijing Capital Airport in the north-east.

Thought about Beijing and Great Wall for a couple of seconds

Thought about Beijing and Great Wall for a couple of seconds Beijing is a vibrant blend of ancient heritage and modern development, offering a glimpse into China’s storied past while showcasing its rapid progress. From the awe-inspiring architecture of the Forbidden City and the vast expanse of Tiananmen Square to the bustling streets lined with street-food stalls and chic boutiques, every corner of the capital exudes energy and history. Just outside Beijing, the Great Wall of China stands as one of the world’s most remarkable feats of engineering. Strolling along its restored sections, such as Badaling or Mutianyu, provides sweeping views of the surrounding mountains and a profound appreciation for its ancient grandeur. Whether exploring Beijing’s bustling cityscape or standing atop the Great Wall’s rugged stones, visitors can’t help but feel immersed in the powerful legacy of Chinese civilization.

I spent three days in Beijing but I feel I could have stayed a bit longer and explored more about the city. I particularly liked wandering around the typical Beijing alleys (Yutongs), and I found the Tiananmen Square awe-inspiring. It took me one and a half hours to visit the whole square. Keep in mind that you need to pre-book a ticket (for free) in order to be allowed to visit the square. The Forbidden City is also a must that one shouldn't miss! I stayed 2 and a half hours and managed to see only the very "basic" side of it. Should I had more time, I would have visited more parts of it. Finally, a day trip to the Great Wall is also recommended. Most tours depart from the city in the morning so you are back by late afternoon/early evening and you have time to visit more sights in the city.

First time travelling to Beijing, even if it was in the winter and the weather was cold. But the people were lovely and it really was a nice trip, met many helpful people and the food was really good. Where I stayed was near the Forbidden City so it was central, and easy to navigate and roam around the areas, the subway and bus systems are easy to use and familiar. Will definitely go back again because there are just too many things to do and see, and winter time even though the crowd was lesser, not the best timing if you want nature view in the gardens like flora.

The Lama temple is the most beautiful place that I visited during my stay. The Forbidden city and temple of heaven are beautiful too... but it's better if you plan both of these on different days as you need to walk a lot. A separate day will be good if you plan to go to the Great Wall of China and here too you need to have a good stamina for walking 🚶‍♀️
