The El Refugio part of Casa de Don Tomas is modern and very comfortable. It has tons of creature comfort that are great at the end of a hard drive and walk through Atacama. Large rooms for 2 adults and adequate wardrobe space. The bathrooms are unique and lack nothing. The rooms have a sit out looking outwards into open fields. Fantastic space to sit, loosen up, catch-up on the day, listen to birds, see the distant mountains.
The restaurant was great for breakfast, evening drinks (very good pisco sours) and dinner. Staff is friendly and responsive. There is a water bottle filling station next to the reception that should become the norm for all hotels. The pool is very inviting.

Excellent stay just outside town. Best part - the views of the Andes from our room! The owners are super-friendly, instantly responded to our enquiries through Whatsapp (though you'll have to translate from Spanish if you don't speak it). The room was very comfortable and everything is brand new (you probably won't find it on GoogleMap yet). Nice bed and linens, fresh towels, nice size shower, lovely design of the room. Each room has a private terrace with table and benches, where they serve your breakfast between 8 and 10am. Breads, yogurt, eggs, fruit, juice - all fresh and tasty! Plenty of on-site, secure parking. Totally safe property - fully fenced and gated. If you're a dog person you'll enjoy having Lika around. The pool area is ideal for relaxing in the afternoons - loungers and some shade available. They also offer snacks, beer, cocktails and wine delivered to you at the pool or the rooms. Highly recommend!

San Pedro was the best highlight of our whole trip to Chile and Argentina. It gives you very different experience. We decided to go as we had additional days but were pleasantly surprised and thought we could have done Uyuni Salt flats to Bolivia from there too as the 3 nights 4 days by bus is very affordable than a separate trip. The touristic town is very cute and takes you back in time.

The town is small, safe, and easy to walk/get around with many good restaurants and stores.
During the day there are many stray/let out to play dogs along the main street (which is dirty). They won't bother you and can be very friendly.

If you're not pressed for time, do not book trips ahead of time! There are plenty of tour companies on Caracol street and around, prices would be 30%-40% cheaper than buying on other platforms like Viator. Check with hotel if they have bike to lend, an easy way to get around. Use a face covering bandana or KN95 mask to avoid dust, I used nasal spray to keep nostrills most.

The owners of the property couldn’t be more helpful, they gave us relevant, helpful advice and made us feel at home. Excellent breakfast with homemade yoghurt, freshly cooked eggs and the usual range of fruit, ham, cheese etc.

The Atacama, with its incredible landscapes, breathtaking sunsets and night skies, and the feeling of peace when you are in the middle of the desert, is a place you MUST visit.
Don’t miss the “salt flats (Salar de Tara)” and “altiplanic lagoons” route. These two tours usually take several hours (the whole day if you go with a travel agency), but they are very worth it (believe it!!).

One of the coolest things to do in San Pedro is to go the Museo de Meteoritos. It is open Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. It is a really cool multimedia (including hands-on) experience. Cost is $5000 CLP per person cash.
As far as restaurants go, I liked Rincon del Sal--it was a legitimate experience with good Chilean food (plus pizza) and reasonable prices.
San Pedro is an easy town to get around in with a car. I had a car so I did not look into Uber or other services. The main thing about San Pedro is the fact that there are so many supercool and unique things to see in a half-day to a day from San Pedro. Geysers, Piedras Rojas, Laguna Cajar (Swimming), Laguna Tebenquiche (site seeing), Salar de Atacama (bird watching), stargazing,etc--there is a ton to do.
I was on a couple tours with some people that like to ride bikes and they said that there was some really cool options for renting bikes and riding near to San Pedro.
As far as getting there goes, I flew LATAM into Calama from Santiago and rented a car from Avis. It was very straightforward. A couple that was on the same tour as I was said that they hired a shuttle from and to the Calama airport and did not rent a car. I stayed in town near Calle Caracoles and that suited me well. It was easy to way to dinner and to shops.
