We came to Osorno looking for Hot Springs on the recommendation of a desk clerk in Santiago. The city was nothing special and the drive to the park where the Hot Springs were located was around 50 miles away. Hotels in that area were fairly expensive so we chose the nearest town of Osorno. After riding the bus for about an hour and a half the experience was a disappointment. We did enjoy the nature walk along the river but the actual Hot Springs was nothing more than a couple of swimming pools filled with warm water which did not give the experience we were looking for or at least that we had before with nice hot mineral water in other countries. This was a trip we would not take again.

More of a transit center (buses to Bariloche, Puerto Montt, Punta Arenas, Brazil! and Santiago) than a stop on the tourist trail but very cool architecture and unrenovated interiors because of that. I spent most of this two week stay in Mision San Juan de la Costa where there is no hotel and the one woman with possible rooms often has a full house. Osorno was for food shopping and internet. Try the small round wheels of local cheese and woolen clothes at Feria Rahue.
Although the hostel and everything inside was super old it was perfectly clean. The host was one of the friendliest I met and she had a few good tips. Didnt expect much in this neighborhood but was then surprised how clean everything was. For just a quick stay in Osorno I would come again.
My wife and I particularly appreciated the staff. They were all friendly and enthusiastic about providing us the very best service possible. Hismar Gonzalez has our special thanks for going out of her way to help us; in her, Hotel Mackenna has an outstanding employee.
The hotel was ideal for me as a place to stay whilst working. Large, comfortable room at a reasonable price and a good restaurant with a menu that changed each night, but always delivered good food.
