Lovely hotel with a long and loaded history. It is one of those hotels that actually aged pretty well despite being over a century old.
The balconies still look out over the lake despite all the buildings that have risen in front of the Hotel over the years. It is also on the edge of the old city, making it the perfect midway point between the Cathedral and the Station. Mind you that you need to climb some steep steps to get there, so taking public transport is recommended if you have luggage with you.
Breakfast is small-scale but really good.
Ideally set in the centre of Lausanne, Swiss Chocolate by Fassbind Lausanne offers buffet breakfast and free WiFi throughout the property. This 3-star hotel offers luggage storage space.

The hotel is clean, modern and the room was very comfortable and larger than we expected. Great bathroom too. We stayed in a Quad room and whilst it was located downstairs from the reception area and the view was into an interior courtyard we still really liked the room and the skylight was a nice addition for extra light. We didn’t have breakfast at the property as it seemed quite expensive for the 4 of us, however the hotels amazing location meant we could grab a breakfast at the Coop restaurant 2 mins away on foot. The hotel is also located in between 2 metro stations so it’s very easy to get to. And our kids loved the small chocolate fountain in reception!!

Set on slopes by Lake Geneva, Lausanne is a laidback and liveable city. The views of the lake and dramatic peaks of the Alps are simply stunning, especially from Sauvabelin Tower in the northern woods.
Surrounded by vineyards, this is an outdoor lifestyle city great for sports including sailing, cycling and hiking. In fact, many international sporting governing bodies and the International Olympic Committee are based here. There is also an excellent Olympic Museum. In winter, Lausanne skiing options include the Jura Mountains to the north-west, and the Valais canton south-west of the lake.
By the lake (Lac Léman in French) is the Ouchy port area, home to many of the Lausanne hotels and restaurants. To the north is the Flon district, known for its lively nightlife popular with students.
The cobbled Old Town – the Cité – is a Swiss Heritage Site on a hill at the city’s highest point. It houses the castle and Lausanne Museum, both watched over by the multi-spired Notre-Dame cathedral. At the foot of the hill are 3 squares with markets, one of which – Place Riponne – is on the Metro.
This is the world’s smallest city with a Metro, an indicator of the wonderfully efficient Swiss transport system, meaning that Geneva Airport (the closest to Lausanne) is easily reachable.
Beautiful location. Scenic lake and snow capped peaks.
Beautiful location. Scenic lake and snow capped peaks. Interesting and historic cathedral. Lots of sightseeing options, though more of them in summer than winter. Boat trips on the lake, rail trips. Museums and galleries. It is easy to move around this relatively small city using the Metro. Metro has extra-safety screen that protects travellers from falling on the track.

Forget the image of chocolate, milk and honey flowing Heidi Land - reality is immigration wherever you walk trying to survive in this high priced society. Poor people in all corners giving a big contrast to the Luxury hotels on the lake. Dirty roads and city center with street food and beggars.

Lausanne is a beautiful city and has, lots of culture and history, the Olympic Museum, beautiful waterfront, great places to eat or have coffee. It's easy to get around using public transport. The public transport system is brilliant, and when you stay in a hotel you will be given a public transport card which enables you to travel unlimited journeys for free, on Metro and Bus and travel to the outskirts of Lausanne by train. This travel card is immensely helpful especially as the city is built on the side of a mountain. Be prepared to negotiate some very steep streets. My tip, take the Metro up to the next stop and walk down.
The city is set on the shore of lake Geneva, and offers stunning scenery, and is a short journey from the Unesco World heritage site of The Lavaux Vineyard Terraces and a little further to Montreux. The people mainly speak Swiss French and English.
I love Lausanne, I go there to visit family a couple time a year, and every time I go I find something different to enjoy.

Lovely beach town, with great public transit and well-curated museums. Breathtaking views of Lac Leman/Lake Geneva with plenty of options for watersports, cruising, or just relaxing on the beaches. The Olympic Museum is a must see, and the best deal is 3-day pass for 3 museums: Lausanne History Museum; Art Brut Collection; and the Roman Museum of Lausanne-Vidy.
Be prepared for lots of stairs and hikes, Lausanne is built on 3 hilltops and they can be steep! A hike (or bus ride!) up to the Hermitage is rewarded by amazing views, and a great cheese fondue at Le Chalet Suisse. On the way through the old city, reward yourself by stopping in to some of the chocolatiers,

1 night only.
1 night only.
Then returned 2 days later just to pay the 6 francs city tax because they forgot to add it to my card.
Hassle! Paid 7 x more on the trip than the city tax.
If someone wants to stay across from the SBB train station. It’s right there.
If someone is a coffee connoisseur- the room has espresso machine but it’s not Nespresso and I didn’t like the taste so I threw it away.
- Bed was comfortable.
- Single room was small
- Bathroom stall v small kept bumping myself in the shower.
I went to Mexicana Grill in FLON.
Got off the boat in Ouchy
I took an hour to find a hotel and everyone Leif giving me wrong directions.
Didn’t spend enough time to venture out.
Just the cafe - around Ouchy - SBB train station.

It is the second time I have been to this hotel. It is located a five-minute walk from Lausanne station, very convenient for travelers. The room, despite being single, is a good size: everything fits comfortably and you can walk around without having to avoid obstacles. Very comfortable bed, good air conditioning (hot/cold), good wi-fi connection. Quite varied breakfast, including hot dishes (scrambled eggs, bacon and sausages). For Switzerland, a very good value for money.
the staff if very helpful and kind, hotel location is next to the lake which is very nice, less than 1min walk you have the Ouchy Port , the Metro and the Bus line, which is very Conveniunt to go everywhere. just on the night when Luna Park has event or concert then it is a bit noisy for the lake view room.
The family room was two rooms with connecting door. There was enough space. The bath towels were fluffy and thick.
Hotel de la Paix has one of the best locations in Lausanne, close to downtown, but still has its quiet side.
- Super comfy bed
- Quiet and calm area
- Close to shops and restaurants as well as public transport
- Very nice staff
- The price of the room is very reasonable given the cost of living in Switzerland
