The location in a valley at 500m, surrounded by peaks...
The location in a valley at 500m, surrounded by peaks reaching 2,500m, was great. Unfortunately the Tamina hot springs up the gorge, and the gorge itself, were closed, but I did manage to catch the last day of the season at Heidiland, a charming place. The mineral springs spa is fabulous, where you can enjoy every type of pool, steam room, sauna, jacuzzi, and water massages, and, of course, it is immaculately clean and well organised. The tourist tax in Bad Ragaz is a hefty 4.60CHF per night. I found the locals rather cold and snobby. It's a nice place to go to if you like the spa. I did not eat out so cannot recommend restaurants. Sorry. The public transport, like everywhere in Switzerland, is excellent but buses only run once per hour.

Small town with all facilities.
Small town with all facilities. Easy access from the A13 motorway or by rail from Zurich. Access on foot to the Tamina gorge and Alt Bad Pfeffers (1h) definitely worth a visit. The nearby Giessen Park alongside the Rhine is great for exercise. Thermal baths at The Grand Hotel open to visitors (£££). Many bars and restaurants boutique shops and small supermarkets. Within walking distance of the Buendner Herrschaft wine growing villages (Heidiland)

Bad Ragaz is a lovely little town with an excellent spa.
Bad Ragaz is a lovely little town with an excellent spa. Everything very close, spas and hotels and services. Station not far from the city center with excellent and frequent public connections. This allows you to reach bad ragaz without a car and to move by public transport or on foot in the city center.
I dined at the restaurant verve by Sven at the grand hotel in Bad Ragaz. Excellent restaurant with impeccable service. Had a pleasant and relaxing weekend. Definitely to be repeated.

Bad Ragaz is a small and boring Swiss village.
Bad Ragaz is a small and boring Swiss village. There's nothing to do there but it could be a base for mountain trekking and visit to Heidiland. There is a big good club for those who like it, and a thermal center, nice but not worthy a trip in itself.
Eating around is usually expensive and not interesting, at least for an Italian. Furthermore all places close at 22:00, which make it difficult to have dinner for those who come from southern Europe. There only one pub open til 23:00, the Thömsn's National Pub, which has some nice beers and some snacks.
We had dinner at Gladys in the golf club, strangely with prices below the average but kind waitresses and genuine food.

Everything way beyond any expectations!!! I wish I could have rated 20 out of 10 - they would definitely deserve it. Communication, flexibility, pro-active approach to my wishes and changes, even a famous 5* property staff in town might learn here quite a lot. Top of the cake: I was challenged to make my scrambled eggs on my own for breakfast and I was really truly happy, there was no chance for any dissappointment coming from the hotel kitchen:-)
Very Friendly and sincere staff. I think this has been the friendliest hotel I have stayed at so far in Europe. Staff happy to help you in whatever way and you don't feel like you're an imposition. Thank you very much for lovely stay. I would highly recommend.
The rooms in the main building are modern and luxurious, but this can be experienced in other hotels. The rooms in the Palace (this hotel) are very special because of its history.
To be honest, I'd rather keep this place a secret.
