It’s hard to capture in words how spectacular the mountains are in Waterton… they just jut right up out of the Prairie. Very different than elsewhere in Alberta. Even with all the burn still evident from years previous, Waterton must be seen. It was cold and windy while we were there - I didn’t pack enough layers and ear coverage. So, our walks were brief. We will be back to hike soon - better prepared, and to stay 2-3 days for sure.

    Waterton Park is beautiful.

Waterton Park is beautiful. It’s not over managed by park employees, meaning that you are allowed to participate and engage the wilderness. We loved it and will be back soon. Red Rock Canyon, Cameron Lake and Cameron Falls are must visits. The Chophouse dinner was excellent.

    Truly a beautiful area.

Truly a beautiful area. We spent time at Cameron Lake about 1/2 hour from our room in Waterton. And time at Red River Canyon, again about 1/2 hour from our room. We did see a Black Bear with two cubs -- pretty far up the slope and, darn, had forgotten to bring binoculars. Also took the cruise boat up to the U.S. Ranger Station in Glacier. Only day that the wind really picked up so had large waves on Waterton Lake. I liked it but others on the boat were a bit green. Only criticism of the boat cruise is that it spends just a few minutes at the U.S. Ranger Station and we could have used about an hour to walk around and see everything. Otherwise, a marvelous 3 days.

Beautiful park with lots of hiking trails available.

Beautiful park with lots of hiking trails available. The town inside the park is small but walkable and great atmosphere. Good options for dining -- highly recommend Thirsty Bear Kitchen + Bar -- but accommodations were very limited and pricey. Despite this, I would hope to go back some day.

We loved the Thirsty Bear restaurant and tasty Beaver Tail.

We loved the Thirsty Bear restaurant and tasty Beaver Tail. We enjoyed walking part of the Bear Hump (It is not an easy steep trail it is rocky and Very steep!) We enjoyed the Red Rock drive and walking around the canyon there. We enjoyed Cameron Falls very near town. It is a beautiful town. We walked along the lake - gorgeous views. We were disappointed with the Bison Paddock -- just a few at the front entrance and there is a one-way dirt road that takes 10 minutes to travel - we did not see any additional bison....at least is free.

A doe and her two fawns, still in spots, were grazing on the shore of the Lake . Groups of walkers, some with dogs on leashes stopped to look or take pictures. The doe and fawns were unconcerned. They seemed to know this was a place of harmony and peace. Waterton stresses being part of an International ecosystem with Glacier Park and the cooperation between the two countries in preserving this special place.

Great location in beautiful Waterton Park. Our room was comfortable and quiet with a lovely view of the lake. We arrived early October to beautiful weather and everything was closing down for the season. There was only one restaurant open for our dinner in the complex, which was very busy, although after a wait of about an hour, our meals were delicious.

Rooms were nice and there were cooking facilities though we did not make much use of them. The hotel is located less than a km from the downtown area and the lake and is close to some trailheads. Some other reviews made comments about problems with noise, but we did not experience any.
