On the south bank of the Ottawa River, the Canadian capital Ottawa is a grand symbol of what the country stands for: bilingualism, civic pride and wonderful vistas.
Facing Langevin Block (the prime minister’s office) is the city’s most famous landmark - the Centre Block parliament building. Its tall central tower and circular parliamentary library make a great photograph from Gatineau across the river, which is joined to the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Rideau Canal by a series of locks. Skating on the frozen canal is a highlight of the huge Ottawa Winterlude festival.
The city’s history is detailed in Bytown Museum by the locks. Opposite is peaceful Major’s Hill Park, overlooked by Château Laurier, a historic hotel named after a former prime minister. Also named after him is Laurier House, his seat of office. Other important national buildings include the Royal Canadian Mint, Supreme Court, and Rideau Hall, the Queen’s official residence when in the country.
The business district and Ottawa Convention Centre are in Downtown, and nearby shopping options include Rideau Mall and ByWard Market - the oldest farmers’ market in Canada and the area with the best nightlife.
Ottawa accommodation on Booking.com includes luxury hotels with pools, B&Bs with parking and apartments near the train station, all easily accessible from MacDonald-Cartier Airport.
I am a fan of Ottawa in general. Checking out the sites and shopping at the Rideau Centre always make it a great visit. Attended the Remembrance Day service at the War Memorial. The weather was top notch, it was great to see the amount of people out for the service.

Fall colors were spectacular.
Fall colors were spectacular. Seem to have scaffolding and cranes around most of the landmarks I wanted to photograph so I didn’t. Byward market area was bustling - enjoyed the visit there.
It was a holiday weekend so my drive around the city was easy.

It's a nice, scenic walkable city.
It's a nice, scenic walkable city. Food was more expensive than used to in Arizona, but likely typical of big cities. Staying at a hotel with full breakfast really helped.
Easy to get around with Uber or car rental from Enterprise.
The ByWard market was very disappointing vs a true marketplace & not worth even walking through.

There is a lot to see in a very small area.
There is a lot to see in a very small area. It's a very walkable city. People were very friendly. It is very easy to get around. Hop on hop off bus is a good way to see a lot of the surroundings, if only in town for a short time, tour guides very knowledgeable. If arriving by train the local transit station is right next door and gets you down town very quickly about 3.75 CAD for one journey. Plenty places to eat and drink especially down Sparks street which is pedestrianised. Parliament Hill is well worth a visit as is The Rideau locks, all close to each other

Great place to visit.
Great place to visit. We loved the museums and going to Mass at Notre Dame Basilica. Highlights included the Rideau Canal, Bank of Canada Museum, Museums of Nature and Science, and History. Lots of lovely walks to admire the fairylike Victorian Renaissance architecture.

See reviews by guests who stayed at hotels in Ottawa
This is a charming, service-orientated hotel boasting easy access to most downtown Ottawa amenities. The staff (a shout-out to Daniel, the handyman) are exceptionally helpful, but non-obtrusive. The buffet breakfast was above-average. The hotel is easy to reach from the airport by public transit. The walk from the the Rideau Centre LRT station to the hotel was less than 10 minutes.
I was surprised that this "business hotel" turned out better than expected. I don't live far away and needed a hotel for the night due to an issue at my condo. This was an affordable option, in proximity to downtown, with spacious rooms and - for Ottawa - a nice breakfast. The place is a little bit labyrinthine, but you'll figure it out.
Sonder's stay is absolutely stunning. Well connected to Ottawa downtown, this stay provides you with everything you need for a great experience, from cooking facilities to gym, playrooms and luggage storage. Room comes pristine. Recommended.
Renovated building that is well equipped in a quiet residential location. There is a big supermarket nearby and around 15 minutes drive to downtown Ottawa.
