Property was located in a safe and quiet part of the city. Parking was provided. Room itself was clean, tastefully decorated, comfortable and accessible (no stairs). Host was very warm, friendly and informative while also being respectful of privacy.

Nanaimo is ok but there are much nicer places to stay on Vancouver Island. There is a lot of homelessness and not as much to do here as elsewhere. It was a rest stop before an early ferry.
We had a nice meal at The View and got to try the famous Nanimo bar from Red's but we liked Campbell River a lot more.

The list is endless for hikes and beaches around Nanaimo.
The list is endless for hikes and beaches around Nanaimo. They have many great restaurants. We have not found a big supply of hotels in the downtown area that we love, but there are some average ones. Fun and relaxing town!

There are some seedy sections of Nanaimo.
There are some seedy sections of Nanaimo. Rough areas to avoid.
We did find a rejuvinated section of the city which was beautifil with cute shops and restaurants. Lights strung at night. We dined there at an absolutely lovely greek restaurant called Asteras. Anyone visiting Nanimo needs to go there! We had the feeling of being in a different country. Excellent food & service!

I live near Nanaimo. Why would one come to Nanaimo?
I live near Nanaimo. Why would one come to Nanaimo? We do for the shopping. Maybe to the inner harbour and walk the boardwalk, have lunch, go whale watching or take a scenic float plane ride. More likely Nanaimo is just a starting point to visiting elsewhere on the island. The island is mainly about the outdoors.

Nanaimo is a great city.
Nanaimo is a great city. Has incredible views of the bay and mountain range. Very friendly people. I happened upon a lovely kitchen store, Maison Cookware & Bakeware, that has an incredible selection of quality kitchenware. I spent some time talking to the owner, Julia House. She was a wealth of information on everything in her store. She said they will soon be opening a tableware store in the same complex. Definitely a stop for every cook!

Nanaimo was a little city that is spread far apart, but everything you need is 10mins away
The homelessness issue rears its head all around Nanaimo but not as aparant as Vancouver!
A lot of OLD buildings with a lot of CLOSED but there is a bunch of construction, so I am wondering if the city will soon rebuild?
We liked everything about this hotel. The hotel was lovely, the staff were so friendly and couldn’t be more helpful. The food was really good and the price was reasonable too. It is the only place we have stayed that you get real glasses in your room.
Great location and free parking. Pet friendly but they have a $30 per night fee not per stay. Since we didn’t get housekeeping not sure what we were paying per night.
This hotel recently underwent renovations. The air conditioning units all look new. The staff is friendly, just like small-town folks and your next-door neighbour.
