The breakfast at the Kaline Restaurant was very nice. My wife's crepes were delicious, and were presented with fresh strawberries and blueberries, as well as a scrumptious maple/caramel syrup. My omelet was just as I expected, and was very tasty. The waitress was very attentive, and spoke fluently in both English and French. The prices were fair, and the restaurant was very nice, clean and attractive. I would dare say that this restaurant was the nicest of all the others in the area. The room was small, but so was the price. We just wanted the room for a base, so we could explore the area. It was clean, comfortable, warm and "Quiet", as the name implies.

Our stay was one week after the summer season and it was wonderfully quiet and peaceful. The property was impeccably clean and had everything you needed as a home away from home, down to a fondue pot! On the chilly evenings we enjoyed the inside wood stove after a nightly wine on the pier overlooking Lac Megantic.

Lac-Megantic is a thriving town situated next to the large...
Lac-Megantic is a thriving town situated next to the large Lake Megantic in south-eastern Quebec province in Canada. It is quite close to our State of Maine, so it's not a long way away for us to escape for a few days. The geographic area is scenic, and very rural, but the town is bustling, and provides all the necessities for a relaxed stay. This trip was just after Christmas, and the weather was cold, but the region was blanketed with fresh snow, so it was very "Christmasy". Most of the attractions are outdoor-oriented, and the area is great for hiking, snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, snowmobiling, four-wheeling, etc. The area around Mont Megantic is dotted with other smaller peaks, which makes it very scenic, but the surrounding towns are small and rural. It's only about an hour's drive into the western-Maine ski resort of Sugarloaf, which is one of the best ski areas in the Northeast. The city of Sherbrooke is only about an hour in the opposite direction, and is a large city that is historic as well as loaded with stores and restaurants. I wish I could speak French, but finding bi-lingual people is easy, but just be prepared for most everyone speaking French. We love the area, and look forward to travelling there again this summer on our motorcycles.

Lac-Megantic is a beautiful little town.
Lac-Megantic is a beautiful little town. It has an entirely new downtown rebuilt after the tragic train accident in 2013. The residents are very resilient and friendly. Lots of local sculpture in the downtown memorializing those lost in the accident and the town. Close by the granite quarry is a great activity with short trail through the quarry hills and amazing views of the mountains and valleys. Other activities are hiking in the mountains, visiting little towns in the area we liked Piopolis which had quaint downtown and little marsh and wood trails. Sculpture is everywhere in the area with a strong artistic community.

Lovely waterfront park and marina overlooking Mont Megantic...
Lovely waterfront park and marina overlooking Mont Megantic beyond the far shore. Many sculptures installed around the perimeter of the 2013 disaster. Lovely memorials for those who died in the disaster. There is a lovely wooden observatory tower halfway down the east side of Lac Megantic, the lake. We visited for the April 8, 2024 Total Solar Eclipse.

First, the positive:
First, the positive:
The owners did a sensational job clearing the land, erecting the new hotel, and all
is brand new. Top marks for cleanliness, mint new equipment. Breakfast staff super, excellent
and included.
As to improvments: 1
) the passage for parking lot entrance and exit is identical 2)
shower head not flexible 3) toilet is single not dual flush ecological 4) washroom mirror is like a cosmetics
mirror at SDM Pharmaprix, with lights, no on-off for air-fan, shower head is not flexible, tiles are rubber,
linoleum, not ceramic expected in this price range 5) the elevator is industrial style, wide, as if designed for
crate and service functions, not people 6) a $50 outright charge added onto the invoice for mult days, not merely
an authorization on card for contingencies 7) the Danone mini-fridge is noisy 8) window locked, not allowing air
from park outside 9) price is $100 over competitor equivalent in Sherbrooke, due to monopoly.

If you’re looking for a low key vacation with lots to see (...
If you’re looking for a low key vacation with lots to see (amazing amount of art sculptures) and do (boating, fishing, swimming, water skiing, kayaking, canoeing, hiking, walking, etc.), this is a hidden gem. The people are mostly bilingual and very pleasant and helpful. They take great pride in honoring the 47 lost in Canada’s second worst train wreck and the rebuilding of the downtown where dozens of buildings and homes were destroyed. Beautiful flowers are everywhere. I took around 100 pics as there was so much to look at and see!

We've been in Mégantic twice: the first time as a young couple decades ago and the second time with our kids and each time we were seduced by the charm of the place. The friendly people and nature attractions is welcoming in these not-so-friendly troubled times. We strongly recommend going to Baie-Des-Sables for water equipment rental. It is close to city center and you can rent a pedalo for about 20$/hour that fits a whole family of 4. That will provide you with a nice time on the lake and its gorgeous scenery. Don't forget to add to your trip the visit of the Astrolab at Mont-Mégantic. The only downside is that the observatory is closed due to covid. Therefore no stargazing through Megantic's telescope this year. But you can still go the summit and see the observatory from the outside and admire the landscapes.

Nice room in cottage style. Had Adirondak chairs in front of room and very nice waterfront. Kayaks available and swimming area on Lake Megantic. Beautiful views and sunset. Fun hiking in the area with Scotch Cap, nearby with fantastic views of the area. The old granite quarry is fun to visit with again beautiful views of the mountains and valleys in the area. We also visited the town of Piopolis which has a quaint town on Lac-Megantic and cute trails in the marshes and woods.
Everything was excellent, including breakfast. Never expected such perfection in a small town hotel. I traveled around the world and stayed in many hotels, some good, some bad, some average, but this hotel was impeccable. I was really impressed.
A budget hotel done right. It's clear they've spent the money on the right things and haven't spent on extra stuff that wouldn't be needed/expected. The bed was super comfy and everything was clean.
