Brotas is well known for its nature and multitude of waterfalls. What I didn't know before getting there is that all of the waterfalls are inside private properties, meaning that you have to pay to access them. Coming from Sweden, where every nature spot is free to access, that was quite a shock. Worst of all: if the place doesn't want to open, then you can't access the waterfalls even if you have the money. And the price tag is quite high: at least 100 BRL to visit just a single one of them! I was there during Brazilian winter (which is basically a warmer version than Swedish summer) and, even on a sunny day with 25C degrees outside, most of the waterfalls were closed because of being winter/low season! So, all the beautiful nature spots are locked away from the visitors, even if you have the money! It is a shame. We could only find one that was open (after driving all over the place) and they charged us 200 BRL for the visit! It is quite a salty price for something that should be free to access. I loved the hotel where I stayed but I don't think I'll ever go back to this city again for the waterfalls. Maybe just for chilling at the hotel and surrounding areas.

We were visiting on a Monday and Tuesday and that's when most of the businesses close. It was also winter so it was a little chili. But we were able to do rafting and canyoning and we had a lot of fun. The waterfalls are amazing and worth the visit.

There is a lot of fantastic places to enjoy there. I adore the place, full of waterfalls and nature. Some entrances to the places are a little bit expensive but, it really deserves the payments. The local restaurants in town offer good service and good food. The principal street offers the best restaurants.
