I was born in Sofia a visit often, so my view of the city somewhat nostalgic not touristy. I like the area where we stayed, as it's very walkable, built in the 1920-30's. The city is vibrant and has lots to offer when it comes to culture, food, and shopping. It is not as expensive, as other European capitals. Probably because Bulgaria has not adopted the Euro, yet. Public Transit is very well setup and can take you anywhere within the city, but you can also walk everywhere without safety issues. You can even do a number of great hikes accessible by public transit.

•Make sure you take some Bulgarian lev with you when visiting Sofia as most restaurants/taxis prefer cash rather than credit cards.
•I booked a tour which included visiting the Rila Monasteries and Rila Lakes in one day. The Rila Monasteries are worth visiting them. Very beautiful and peaceful. I suggest going early in the morning to avoid the crowds and enjoy the peaceful environment they have to offer. It takes about 1hr 50mins to arrive by car to Rila monasteries and around 3 hrs by train/bus so i suggest to book a tour together with Rila Lakes.
•As For the Rila lakes, if the chair lift is not working which takes you to beginning of the hike, be prepared to walk for more than 1hr 30mins up the mountain which is very steep and difficult if you are not used to long uphill hikes. Make sure you wear proper shoes and water + food with you.

Theres a good variety of things to do both in the city and in nearby areas like Vitosha mountain, with good hiking trails. Everything is easily accessible using public transport, which is one of the best in europe, with buses, trams and a metro to choose from.

Sofia has many sites to and can be done in two days comfortably, longer if you're a museum enthusiast. One day most sites can be covered. I chose a day trip to the Rila Monastery which is highly recommended. I also did a day trip to Poldiv, which is doable but I would say Poldiv needed a little more time if you like shopping. Sofia is easy to walk around. I didn't need public transport. Definitely recommend Sofia.

A great fun, young city -- on the heels of visiting London earlier that week, we loved the cleanliness, the great human pace of Sofia, the easy to navigate newer metro and the abundance of sights, free tours, easy shopping and activities for the entire family. The food was abundant and great, the pace of life felt human and youthful. We look forward to exploring more in depth the museums and side streets.
The apartment is really nice, cosy and clean. IThe kitchen is fully equipped. It is in the city center close to main attractions and metro station - 5 min walk. I really enjoyed our stay in Ayki Apartment. We appreciated especially the warm welcome of the owner and our talks about Bulgarian culture, cuisine, literature and humour. He prepared a map with useful places and advise us what Bulgarian food we need to try. He was there when we needed to ask about something. I really recommended this place.
Nice warm family atmosphere, Zlata is very nice and supports me when needed. I enjoy staying in a hostel, and I did not feel isolation, as in the hotel. Very good price and flexible. Nearby, walking distance are shops Lidl - 5 min walk, and Bulgaria Mall - 27 min. Walk. I can cook my own food in the kitchen, and keep it in the fridge. I really relax there.
Wonderful location - in walking distance from bakery Brimeks, high-rated restaurants (La Terra, Albi), Mall of Bulgaria, and public transport. Large room, large and super comfortable bed, well-arranged bathroom, air conditioning, parking and car-washing next to the hotel.
The Best Hotel in Bulgaria, there is not even a competition, Grand Hotel Millennium stays high in the sky above all the hotels in Bulgaria! I recommend it extremely high! From your humble guest Dancho.
