Swan Hill is a nice town with a good range of restaurants, take-away and cafes to choose from. Breakfast at Arc Expresso was delicious.
The main tourist feature in town is the Pioneer Settlement, this is good during they day, but don't miss the laser aquascan show at night, it is fantastic, informative and entertaining.

I think Swan Hill lives large on the back of tourism and I think a lot of what the council has done in the town is geared to that. You have a town in the middle of nowhere with meter parking in the main shopping area and the place has a strange disconnected vibe to it. Clearly the covid impacts are still felt with shop vacancy rates visible. I didn't feel drawn to anywhere in particular. It could definitely do with a brewery. The pubs and hotels almost feel like adult novelty shops with only a small handful of beer gardens on display. Given that you can catch a train from Melbourne on a $10 ticket ($5 for seniors - or free if they use their govt freebie pass), I'm surprised this is not being marketed to death. The collection of accommodation is a set of solid looking motels but it doesn't feel like a destination-town with any form of grand hotel, just somewhere you might stop for a night before you move on somewhere else. To compare and contrast Swan Hill to the other nearby towns like Kerang, Barham and Cohuna - there's a fair scope for improvement. The main reason I visited was for geocaching and that was good. I would also consider coming here for kayaking and golf (on the Murray Downs side of things). A good network of bike trails, public hire bikes and a very relaxed attitude towards worrying about helmet laws would provide visitors an awesome way of finding their way around this picturesque location without the need to jump in the car (and encourage more train visitors too). I hear the Pioneer Village is excellent - but that isn't my thing.

Being a disability unit the power points and tv were too high. There was plenty of room but it wasn’t practical.
In this day and age a properly working tv and fresh milk not a month out of date is not a lot to ask for.

We were in Swan Hill for basketball.
We were in Swan Hill for basketball.
Stadium is great, and most of the other court locations were close by & easy to get to.
We managed to navigate Swan Hill relatively easily.
We were also lucky enough to be in town for the Market Day, which was great to see all the local talents as well as shops organising sales & stalls.

Swan Hill's Pioneer Settlement package is well worth it.
Swan Hill's Pioneer Settlement package is well worth it. We spent time on both Saturday and Sunday there. Do ride in the horse drawn vehicle and the 1925 Dodge while you''re there.
The Paragon Cafe is handy for a snack. We sat on their verandah and soaked up the atmosphere of the village.
The Pyab paddle steamer goes once in the morning and again in the afternoon. One of our favourite activities is cruising along the Murray River, very high at this time.
It's impossible to describe the amazing night-time laser spectacular which covers history over millions of years - a definite must-do.
Another must for us was the beautiful Regional Art Gallery. Luckily the featured art was from Swan Hill region indigenous artists, simply wonderful. A great shop for art books and gifts too.
If you enjoy homemade gelato, go to Jilarty, so yummy! (other tasty snacks as well).
At night we experienced two places - Swan Hill Club and the RSL. Nothing fancy, a chance to live 'local'.
The motel had a breakfast menu, dine in, room service or take away. While not an extensive menu it is more than adequate and reasonably priced.
The room was very comfortable for your night stay. The staff were friendly and able to advise on dining options. Bathroom/ shower was great.
Overall, Swan Hill was a nice place to stay.
Motel is well located on outskirts of Swan Hill near the Pioneer Settlement attraction.
We were made welcome by the management.
Our room was clean and well maintained. Importantly the water was hot and the bed comfortable.
The rooms are neat tidy and clean. I also love that you have cutlery. While this may seem strange to say I recently stayed in Swan Hill and there was no Cutlery, I had to eat my takeaway with a teaspoon.
Location is best for V-line customers. The Inn is just across the road from Swan Hill station. Its in the midst of the town with easy shopping and food venues.
