Being local and having dined at Prospect Country House on two previous occasions, we were well aware of the high calibre cuisine and service on offer. As in-house guests, we were treated to a whole new level of excellence. The room was very comfortable and well appointed. The bathroom was cleverly laid out. Toilet and shower were both complete with doors (we love shower doors so water doesn't flood the bathroom and drafts are kept out!), there was under floor heating and, unusually these days, plenty of towels on offer. Dinner was as outstanding as our previous meals and the Continental breakfast was also a treat with Chef Kalpana's house-made granola, yoghurt and stone fruit compote being the stand-outs for us! David looked after us beautifully on arrival and during dinner and Kylie was a lovely, bright presence at breakfast and on check out. If you want country beauty without being isolated, a wonderful blend of traditional Georgian style and contemporary comfort, fine dining without the pretention, a top notch wine list (the property is owned by Pooley Wines), warm, friendly hospitality and an opportunity to really feel spoiled, you really can't go wrong at Prospect Country House!

Loved the location! We had a beverage or two gazing at Australia's oldest bridge from the cottage! Later on we walked a few minutes into the Richmond Arms for a lovely tea! Had a look at some lovely shops too! The cottage is great too, had everything we needed, and more!

Just an amazing little town with what felt like lots of cool history. The people and little stores around us were all really friendly and awesome. Highly recommend Richmond Bakery for some famous scallop pies and also the whisky tasting room located in that same area.

Richmond is a beautiful part of Tasmania.
Richmond is a beautiful part of Tasmania. A gorgeous sandstone convict built bridge, colonial buildings, the old Richmond Historic Gaol, the Rivers Arm Hotel. The walk along the river is lovely and lots of happy ducks. Crafty shops. Well worth a visit. Wish I had stayed longer.

For those of us from the big mainland cities, like Sydney and Melbourne, all of Tasmania, is a breath of fresh air. We flew into Hobart early in the morning and went straight to Richmond. Automatic relaxation. All you need to do is walk up and down the main street. There are a coffee, shops, restaurants, bars, antique shops. The opening and closing hours are a little unpredictable and no matter what time of year you will need summer and winter clothes because once the wind comes, it’s cold.

Richmond is the most beautiful small town in Tassie.
Richmond is the most beautiful small town in Tassie. Great cafes, boutiques, gift shops, vineyards. The walk along the river- gorgeous. The Shoe Maker’s cottage and it’s sorrounding just beautiful. Walking distance everywhere. Locals very helpful and very happy living there (I would be too)
We loved the location & the view. Very peaceful & great stars at night. Easy access from the airport & close to Richmond.
Loved the little bags of “sheep snacks” decorated by the owner’s children. Really nice to have fresh fruit, milk, bread & cereal supplied, as we arrived on a late plane.
Beautiful room & very clean.
We stayed in the Convict loft room which was quiet spacious, clean and comfortable. great location in the Main Street and easy walking distance to cafes, shops and pints of interest.
The food at the Richmond Arms was good pub food.
We enjoyed a wonderful 2 night stay at Shoemakers Cottage and we very much enjoyed our return visit to Richmond and surrounds.
