What a special stay. The safari tent was super kid friendly and well equipped, and the kids loved wandering the farm and feeding animals. We hope to book this every time we have to drive Melbourne to Sydney!

Location very convenient. The venue is being renovated and the rooms and bathrooms were lovely, downstairs dining area was great for us to bring our own breakfast. Common upstairs lounge was comfy. Communication was easy and clear.

We had a wonderful stay. Our host went above and beyond to make our stay comfortable. Our family and two dogs felt welcome at this excellent pet-friendly accommodation. The bedrooms are beautifully decorated. We appreciated the variety of snacks and breakfast options.

Date of Visit: Saturday 5th October, 2024 After looking everywhere between Sydney and Goulburn for a place to stay for the night, we stumbled upon the only available establishment, Tarcutta Retreat. Minutes from The Hume, it sits on top of Centenary Avenue which offers serene residential views down to Sydney Street and surrounding properties. We booked out of sheer need. If we were booking for the luxury of a pristine 4 star travel lodge offering all the bells and whistles, we would have been severely traumatized however; the intimate shock of the volume of caretaking was somewhat overlooked by our intrinsic need of a bed and hot water. For a population of just over 400 people, Tarcutta is another bypassed town that has once been a favourite stop over between Melbourne & Sydney. Nowadays, it's clear that the falling tourism of smaller regional towns takes it toll on the everyday functioning of local businesses, and this hostel feel accommodation that was once a care facility has unfortunately seen better days. With its intimate style rooms and communal kitchen, dining & lounges, it's very welcoming for the casual common folk looking for an at home feel before the spring clean takes place. Welcome to Tarcutta Retreat, Bernadette's home of traditional hospitality. With a warm motherly approach, she offers a unique accommodation experience. If you are looking for a quiet room to yourself and aren't big too fussed on much else, this is for you. The hot water was amazing when it reached us. I could easily have stood under the showerhead for an hour. Bonus points if you love the history of the establishment. The remnants of the once nursing home trickle into each room with the occupational aids in the bathroom, loudspeaker system and call buttons and heritage style receiver that can be viewed in the main foyer. Don't let this country laid back style of business defer you from getting a good night's rest.
