We are ex Mackay people and moved away when we retired

We are ex Mackay people and moved away when we retired Mackay is a working persons town & a place of oppertunity. However I have NO idea why you cant fly to and from Gold Coast or Sydney direct. The area of mackay is extremly picturesque, & is a great holiday destination paerticularly in the cooler months. I personaly think it is being let down due to lack of flights to and from various cities

Great city, just enough of everything! Good shopping, nice restaurants and a beautiful Marina. Good entertainment on the weekends, usually always something going on in the city. Loads of accommodation to choose from too.

Trip to Mackay Harbour was fantastic.

Trip to Mackay Harbour was fantastic. Purchased fish and chips at the Marina and drove out along the breakwall and enjoyed dinner sitting on the rocks watching the ocean. The marina was full of boats of all sizes. Canelands shopping centre in the city had plenty of great shops as did the city centre. Plenty of great cafes and restaurants to choose from, Drove to Hay Point Coal Terminal lookout which was fascinating.

Lovely city on the Pioneer river with walkways along its front. Beautiful Botanic Gardens. So many beautiful beaches not too far north. However, we felt that the city centre itself was a bit dead. Our main reason for coming to this area was the scenery in the surrounding districts which are magnificent!! The tropical forests walks in National parks. Searching for platypus, dugongs!! Beautiful beach walks etc!!

Staff were extremely obliging, friendly and efficient. Room was small but clean, quiet and comfortable with everything you need. Breakfast was DELICIOUS. Whilst not in town, location was convenient being just a few steps from airport terminal, hire cars etc and it is not a long drive into town. As we had a function on the south side of Mackay, it was perfect for us.

Flyscreen was fitted and I could open the window for air and natural lights. It's rare to have flyscreen maintained in Mackay city.
