Very relaxed, picturesque, safe and peaceful city, lovely historic buildings, easy to walk around. Good shopping compared to New Zealand and all in a central location. Nice parks. The highlight is the Launceston Gorge and the lovely salad chain of restaurants, Liv eat fresh in Launceston, also found one in Campbell town. Great central stop for travelling to Tarkine or Freycinet national parks. A 2 night stay is plenty on time.

Launceston is gorgeous!
Launceston is gorgeous! The location by the river, the superb architecture, history, parks. There are fabulous cafes and restaurants, a superb public art gallery, plus many small private ones. The National Car Museum is outstanding. Even if you are not interested in motor vehicle history, the whole place is exceptionally clean and tidy. The scenery around Launceston, eg, the Tamar River and Cataract Gorge is picturesque and well worth the trip. It's walkable in all directions. Highly recommended!

Launceston is great, with many tourist attractions anyone can explore. It's such a truly blessed and a beautiful place. Anywhere we went, there is always some interesting place to discover as first timers in this beautiful state of Tasmania, as we travelled from Devonport to Hobart to Launceston, and back again to Devonport as we are awaiting to board The Spirit of Tasmania. The natural beauty of Tasmania from its' National Parks and Wildlife, scenic views, mountains, valleys and fields, caves, rivers, lakes and beaches including its' islands are just full of history, heritage, and a narrative of very many different people who discovered and explored what is now, the seat of tourism in Tasmania.

It was not a very long stay for us but were happy with the variety of restaurants available to dine. Launceston would be a great place to base yourself to explore places of interest outside of the city.
