There was only snow for the first days of our stay.
There was only snow for the first days of our stay. The ski slope was operating, but the cross-country trails were out of action. It was a short drive towards Mt Hotham, and the snow improved. We found a suitable trail over the road from the toboggan slope, Which was excellent.

Dinner Plain is a quieter alternative to Hotham.
Dinner Plain is a quieter alternative to Hotham. You’ve still got a gentle ski slope and tobogganing area so good for kids and beginners. The town itself is just beautiful. Several choices of pubs and eateries. It’s easy to get to Wire Plain and Hotham via shuttle bus. A beautiful place.

Beautiful little town where you can bring your dog.
Beautiful little town where you can bring your dog. It's very quiet but close enough to trails or Hotham. Tobogganing is great fun. The poma ski lift is quite expensive for such a small ski slope.
There aren't a lot of dining options but that didn't bother us as we brought our own food and coffee. Will definitely be back to visit, and hopefully for longer next time.

I've already given my thoughts about the place.
I've already given my thoughts about the place.
Being off-season, no eateries were open, but fortunately, we were prepared and brought all our own food.
You should know that when I googled "Great Alpine Road accommodation", there was no mention of Dinner Plain, Mt Hotham or any of the resorts. Only Harrietville and Bright. Bit of a missed opportunity there.

Dinner plain looks like a set from a spaghetti western, tired run down with very poor environmental garbage collection. The management committee need to have a serious look at the future direction this village needs to take as it is very clear it is not going well.

We enjoyed the sled dog racing that was being held that weekend.Prefer to stay on mountain at Hotham but definitely better than staying completely off mountain and the commute to Hotham was fairly straightforward. We ate at the High Plains hotel - the food and service was good.

Great location, easy to find in Dinner Plain. Lovely lookout to views of beautiful snowgums from the lounge/kitchen area. Rooms were warm on arrival, use of code to access property worked well. Kitchen had good variety of utensils. Drying room worked well, washing machine and dryer also ok. Good base for bushwalking during Easter break. Much better place to stay compared to Hotham.
Everything was good except for no breakfast being available - not even a continental breakfast - which was very disappointing for an establishment such as this - although it did appear to be a problem in the whole of Dinner Plain we could of at least been advised of this prior to our stay.
The village of Dinner Plain was fascinating and the nature ...wildflowers snow gums generally letting nature express. The chalets are so unique interesting and different. I very much enjoyed the easy walking trails too.
