Cape Otway Lightstation, hotel in Cape Otway

Located on an 1848 historical site, just off the Great Ocean Road and 38 minutes' drive from Apollo Bay, Cape Otway Lightstation boasts stunning views of the Southern Ocean.

This is a very special place. The lighthouse at Cape OTWAY feels like a hideaway. We arrived after normal opening hours, so, as planned let ourselves in using the keys provided. Our journey to the lighthouse featured kangaroos and koalas. When we got to our accommodation, apartment 2, the door opened to a room with breakfast table, king-sized bed, kitchenette and breakfast tray. Through there to a hallway, with large bathroom, and a second bedroom with twin beds. The twin bed I slept in was really comfy. We were treated to a beautiful sunset, obviously ordered especially 😉, and such a peaceful night. Conservation and protection with history thrown in. A truly special place.

This was one of the most beautiful and unusual locations I have stayed in. You won't find modern conveniences, which would ruin the authenticity of the experience. The beds are wonderful, the bathroom beautiful and the scenery is outstanding. If you have an artistic soul this property is for you. There are plenty of DVD's and games but the true entertainment is the surroundings, the serenity and the quiet. Don't miss the opportunity to remove yourself from the modern world and enjoy the views.

I loved the hiking to Lake Elizabeth and Triplet Falls.

I loved the hiking to Lake Elizabeth and Triplet Falls. Also the Cape Otway Light Station was excellent. The treetops walk and zipline also excellent. You have to be prepared for 1 - 2 hour drives to get to some scenic sights as they are all spread around the region. Make sure you are prepared for wet weather.

The location is stunning, Cape Otway is a great midway base along the great ocean road. Its easy to get to. Make sure to allow time for a wander and time to enjoy wine / cheese and watching the sunset. For an extra wow, get up and enjoy the sunrise! Next time we would stay at least a few nights.

Even though it appeared expensive to get the see a lighthouse. The walks the building itself and other attractions take awhile, so it is not a quick trip. It will take some time to get the most of the experience The cafe provided good food and the sighting of it meant you get a great view of the lighthouse as you eat. The plaques are informative and we particularly enjoyed reading those to do with the 2nd.W.W.

Don’t book here unless you are prepared for a substandard experience in terms of how the house was presented. The flies were awful we had thousands every day coming down the chimneys which was a real health hazard. Kitchen utensils missing, bbq not working, kettle blew the fuse box the lust is endless . But we love lighthouses and the structure and ambience were still discernible but the management are doing NOTHING to enhance ones stay and, it’s $500 per night for which you expect somewhat more. Compared with somewhere like Gabo lighthouse there is just NO comparison - shame really

We stayed 2 nights in the Lodge B&B (beware no breakfast - although they do stock cereal, bread and milk so you can self serve in the room). This is a special place due to the location inside a historic site, Cape Otway lighthouse station. At night it gets very windy but the sky is clear and you can see the galaxy with bright stars etc. It is off the Great Ocean Road with drive of 15 minutes from the turn off. From here driving to 12 Apostles will be 1 hour 15 minutes. Apollo Bay 30 minutes.

Bimbi Park - Camping Under Koalas was great location in a lovely quiet spot very close to Cape Otway. The kitchen within the cabin was well appointed to allow the preparation of multiple dishes. A gas heater was a welcome addition to the cabin, as it can be quite cool at night. We managed to see a number of koalas during our stay at Bimbi Park.

Fabulous setting with lots of koalas, kangaroos and birds to see and hear. Easy bush walking tracks and access to Cape Otway. We loved the friendly staff, their fish n chips night, morning coffee stall, feed-the animals, splash park, mini golf as well as outdoor movie. Also really liked the eco cabin we stayed in. Thank you!!
