The West MacDonnell ranges are a must and just a magical place to visit. We liked our visit to the Royal Flying Doctor Service, Anzac Hill, The Telegragh Station. Didn't have time to explore Alice Springs town much.

At night, our car was robbed in a guarded parking lot, breaking 2 windows. Despite the fact that we asked the hotel manager if it was safe to leave the car in front of the hotel. (in principle, cars do not enter the hotel). In the morning, they helped us quickly replace 1 glass and temporarily cover the opening of the second one with a film, which was not available, in the repair shop. Not for free, at our expense, but quickly. The second glass was replaced only in Port Lincoln. The mood is spoiled for a long time.

Alice Springs is a city with many problems that only they can resolve, however it is the closest place to Uluru to fly to from most cities in Australia. The Doubletree nextdoor would be a much more desirable place for many travelers to spend a night. If staying longer, there are many interesting attractions, including a world-class animal preserve, to enjoy. The advice many Australians gave us was to avoid downtown. I would concur. We needed to do some grocery shopping prior to driving to Uluru, so we had no choice.

    A place on the decline.

A place on the decline. Very few local businesses still open or operating. Few options other than pub meals available. Drinks in local bars very expensive. Do not go out on your own in town after 2100 hrs. Be prepared to be humbugged by the local indigenous people. Thought I was travelling through parts of South Africa with high fences and barbed wire. Can't see myself returning again, there's no reason.

First we visited the Town's Information center, Staff were excellent and provided all information we needed for our 3 day tour, Places we visited , West and East Macdonald ranges, Anzac Hill / Tower, There are lots of Gauges and natural landscapes are breathtaking, There are places you can eat, and buy things that you need , but make sure to carry sufficient liquor as only 3 days that bottle shops are opened, and limited hours,

We have stayed at the Desert Palms Alice Springs in the past and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The location is great, very clean and tidy, the staff are friendly and they have great facilities such as the pool, laundry room and BBQ area. The property has an automatic code gate at night and well secured. There is a coded back gate if you wish to go to the golf club for a hit of golf or for a meal. We enjoyed sitting on our private balcony enjoying a quiet beverage whilst enjoying the lovely weather.

Being able to park at the door to my room was appreciated as were the security gates that were kept closed at night. The room was compact and clean though I found some frozen chicken pieces in the freezer compartment of the fridge. The bed was comfortable enough and the air conditioner and fan were great. The courtyard area outside was a bonus for my two small dogs. This property is one of the few in Alice Springs that allow pets to stay.

The room was very clean. The staff were really helpful and nice. There are red neck clientele in Alice Springs and they do there best to stay normal.Honestly what staff go through against absolute dickheads is wrong. I watched a really nice Asian man on the Diplomat hotel staff have his personal space so badly abused and I have seen it before. The Asian and Indian staff were really really helpful, happy and easygoing.

Mercure is a really nice hotel with all it's rooms set in small blocks in the gardens and around the pool and main reception. The rooms are spacious and very comfortable. Staff were very smiley, friendly and helpful. The restaurant was very nice and the food really good. I did think it would be nearer to the town (15 minute walk) than it was but taxis are plentiful and cheap. Highly recommended.
