The building fasting back to 1437 was pretty cool. Bed was comfortable, room was clean and kept up. Decor was a bit dated by modern sensibilities but fit with the "antique" vibe of the hotel. Staff was super helpful any time we spoke with them. Loved that there was a bus stop literally at the front door of the hotel with multiple lines stopping there, made getting around without a rental car super easy.

Made famous for its “hills alive with the sound of music”, Salzburg is a very pretty town filled with romantic buildings and squares. If you are not yet aware that Mozart was born here, then you will be as soon as you land at Salzburg W.A. Mozart International Airport.
Further your education about this musical prodigy at his actual birthplace, Mozarts Geburtshaus. The city is the namesake of the Salzach River which runs through it, and alongside this beautiful river lays the Schloss Mirabell, one of the many impressive castles within the city limits. Schloss Mirabell and Hellbrunn with their picturesque gardens, beautiful galleries and impressive halls make the ideal spot for a picnic during summer.
The white-stone Hohensalzburg fortress is perched upon a green hill and offers magnificent views over the city. Or, you can escape it all in the Kapuzinerberg forest, which offers splendid Alpine vistas- a reminder of Salzburg’s natural beauty.
The shopping centre focuses around Alter Markt Square and Getreidegasse, the latter is a quirky street with old-fashioned signs indicating what each store sells. With 125 hotels and guesthouses available on Booking.com, your stay in Salzburg is bound to be as pleasant as this city is pretty.

This gorgeous city can be very full of tourists but we were lucky enough to manage our way through. We staying two different long weekends, one in constant rain and one sunny. On the rainy weekend we stayed in the old Town, over the river at the Altstadhotel Weisse Taube which was perfectly located. There were no crowds and we watched the St Rupert Festival setup. It was lovely. The next weekend was sunny, the festival was open and we stayed just over the river at the Imlauer Hotel Pitter across from Maribel gardens. The city was very crowded and hectic and the old town was packed. We found we could step in and out of the crowds in this location and found a side street with quiet shaded cafes. Our stay from mid September 2024. The fortree castle, Mozart concerts and masses, and beauty of the city are extraordinary.

Salzburg is a city of Charm and full of history, music and delight. It’s easy to spend a whole week there. They make much of their most famous composer, rightly so. They make much of the locations used in the film “the sound of music“.
Concerts are somewhat expensive, but if you go to Saltsburg wanting to hear Mozart, then you would be foolish to pass these up. Food is on the whole extremely good. The atmosphere is incredibly friendly and very hospitable. The Saltsburg card, which gets you into , all the top attractions and onto all the transport in the city is extremely good value and well worth purchasing.

Salzburg is a tourist town.
Salzburg is a tourist town. All of old town, all castles and gardens and museums and bridges are overrun with tourists. The businesses there lean into it — virtually everything is named after Mozart, the Sound of Music is plastered everywhere, there are bus tours and walking tours and Segway tours that you can’t avoid running into constantly. Even the university is named after Mozart. It’s kitschy and crowded. There’s plenty of lovely things to see, but it’s hard for the experience to not be coloured by having to veer to avoid someone’s selfie every 10 steps. Do go climb to Franziskischlössl, I do recommend Obere Stadtaussicht to look back on Hohensalzburg (wouldn’t recommend going there itself), check out the cemetery where Doppler is buried (also where Mozart is buried, but you wouldn’t know it because every corner claims he once ate a biscuit there)

We were only there for 2 nights.
We were only there for 2 nights. We spent time in the old town. Visited the cemetery & catacombs. Visited a couple of churches walked up to the castle & did a basic tour & just got a general feel of the city. There wasn’t time to actually visit any of the number of museums available; one we did attempt to go into was closed that day. It should go without saying, a lovely compact city with plenty to occupy all tastes for as long as you might like.
Lots of cafes & restaurants but probably advisable to eat earlier than later. Good public transport.

Salzburg is a beautiful city, really easy to get around the old town on foot and to the surrounding areas by bike or bus. We did a biking tour to see the Sound of Music sights and we also travelled back to Hellbrun palace to see the trick water fountains which were amazing and great fun! We also went to the outdoor swimming pools at Freibad Leopoldskron (as it was a very hot day!) and had a lovely afternoon cooling off there. The hotel we stayed in was a bit far out to walk into the centre but the buses were so regular it didn't cause an issue.
Beautiful boutique room. Luxury with a boho style. Close to all the sights we wanted to see on Rick Steves Audio Tour. In the heart of old town shopping district if that's your thing. Octoberfest carnival (also in old town) was also occurring during our visit and it was a blast.
It was less than a 10 min walk from the main Salzburg Banhof/train station on arrival. It was also within easy walking distance of the city centre. When departing, a direct bus to Salzburg Airport was also available just down and almost across the road from the hotel.
Fantastic boutique hotel in very central location in old town . Lovely breakfast and restaurant for dinner and service second to none with owner seeing to work every day but ensuring the most personal attention to everyone
