Gmunden is an amazing undiscovered place which deserves a larger tourist crowd than it currently has.
It is the best place to stay in Salzkammergut as it allows easy access to all attractions in the region, but still this is a town and not a village.

Pretty little town on the lake, with a couple of excellent restaurants nearby serving local cuisine mostly. Lots to see, lovely walks, hikes and drives. One glaring problem they need to address ASAP. Gmunden lacks a decent 4/5 star hotel. There are a couple which are adequate 3 stars.

Quaint lake town. Highly recommend a short overnight trip. Enjoy dinner at Hackall restaurant. Amazing pizza. But make reservations. Take an electric boat for an affordable lake experience. Apartment accommodations were great

Very nice city with a breathtaking view with a castle on the lake and high hills covered in clouds.
The lake is crystal clear, so perfect for swimming, or sailing.
There are ferrys that can take you to other parts of the lake.
Just an absolutely gorgeous and clean city with very welcoming people.
Many art galleries and all sorts of exhibitions.
We also reccomend Hotel Zum Goldenen Hirschen in the city centre with a luxury design and very nice staff.

Amazing lake town, with a special sea-lake architecture. Small but charming and the locals are very friendly.
The town offers many activities such as: an electric boat ride on the lake, a cable car that leads to the mountain above the lake, from where there is a fantastic view of the glaciers and the Alps.

The Esplanade Hotel in the City Center is a disaster (including a pizzeria there) - go to the Esplanade Hotel in Zagreb (Croatia) and see what the service and luxury is. We left the day before, this is a city of old people….
Top location, room overlooking the lake, exactly as the photos. Clean, spacious & quiet, had a good night sleep.
Front desk Juliana was super lovely and sweet, gave us lots of information about what to see, where to eat, coffee and cakes..Really enjoyed Konditorei Grellinger cream-rolls, the best ever pastry !!
Breakfast was good quality.
Spar supermarket was below, I could buy some chocolate & bonbons conveniently ;-)

The location was private and very quiet, very relaxing. It is a little further from Gmunden, but as long as you enjoy walking for a bit of exercise to go into town, it is ideal. There are a lot of trails and bike paths nearby as well. And take advantage of the full kitchen to make your own breakfast and sandwiches for lunch.

The viennoiseries are excellent. The chef is talented. I've had the opportunity to talk a bit with him, he's very friendly.
We were 4, and the room was still big, like a flat. Modern, very clean, and all the necessary equipment.
Charming classic hotel in an excellent lakeside position. The superior room had a lovely view and a small balcony. The restaurant was very good. Worth staying in. And we were lucky enough to get one of the few parks in the hotel parking space. Recommended
Lovely apartment in the city center of Gmunden, very close to the lakefront. The apartment is very modern, clean and cozy with a few retro touches, which I personally loved. The included parking card was a very nice surprise.
