The great part is that you can walk out of the town and you are on a trail.
The scenery is stunning!
The fees for the Park, as they are right now are very pricey.
Restaurants, supermarkets and any kind of services are way high, for what they offer!

Great for hiking and trekking.
Great for hiking and trekking. Yes you now have to buy a pass to go hiking in the National park but just pay up and enjoy the scenery. El Chalten is expensive compared to El Calafate but that is because of the location. It has a slightly wild frontier town look to it. Felt very safe and friendly.

Indeed is the "Capital of Trekking" with all the amenities thats come along with it, even you can travel without any equipment of any sourse since you can rent it all, that's priceless!. all choices of restonants and cafes across town. one mayor detail is that no cellphone signal available nor on the trails or the city (roaming its useless) only WiFi on the places.
the trail are well marked but the scenery its breathtaking. another point its to have rather cash for paying since if pay in cash its more sheaper than CC due to local fees. (most of the stablishments have to wait no less than 21 days to cash out when you pay with CC so they tranfer it to the customers). it is one of the most safest places in the world!

Beautiful town, lots of places to eat and have a beer; know that the weather is extremely unpredictable and hardcore: we had insane winds when we there in beginning of April. We got lucky enough to see Mt Fitz Roy the first day we were there but every day after (3 days) it was covered in clouds, so take that into account for your trip!

Amazing place that can be the base for many adventures!
Amazing place that can be the base for many adventures! We planned our trip to Patagonia leaving more time for El Calafate, but we left thinking we would have preferred to switch this! In El Calafate, everything is much more tourist like and you need to pay for basically every tour you’re going to.
Chalten felt more chilled and like you can just leave the hostel and go do your own thing without necessarily paying for an agency to take you somewhere.
It’s a very charming little place with great food and local beers available, so very cosy and welcoming after a long day of hiking

We loved El Chalten!! The hiking is incredible!
We loved El Chalten!! The hiking is incredible! And the town is adorable. Love the little local food places. Since the weather is so variable it was nice to have an extra day in our schedule to wait for a clear day for hiking. We all filled it with horse back riding, climbing and birding so no one was bore.

El Chalten is a very small town, so every accommodation is pretty close to everything (supermarkets, trails entrance, restaurants). Nothofagus B&B has a beautiful view to Fitz Roy. We saw it from our window. Breakfast is included, and you can have hot water and drinking water through the day. Staff is super friendly and helpful, and of course check in at 11 am (as soon as we arrived from el calafate) helps a lot: you can leave your stuff and go hiking straight away.
The breakfast was amazing such a wide variety a great way to start off the morning of hiking. They also provided free water another great asset for hiking! The staff were so helpful and informative and the property is located in an amazing location!!! It’s perfect for hiking in El Chalten!
Gaby's a legend! Super accomodating, I was climbing various random nights as weather permitted, messaged me to ask if I needed a room for the next night and made it so I could stay in the same room. Best hostel in El Chalten!!!
Location is great! Right near the entrance to Lagos de Tres trail. Room was clean and had great views of the valley. Breakfast was one of the best we’ve had in Argentina!
