The Wheeler on the Bay Lodge is a surprisingly perfect location. I was expecting a motel and got a small resort, quiet, serene, beautifully located next to the marina. The rooms are big compared to what you normally get at a motel, very clean (as in VERY), well equipped with functioning appliances. My room had a small deck in the back which was a really nice place to just rest a bit and take in the scenery. They have a dock and you can apparently rent canoes to move around the Nehalem River (which I didn't do), get on a boat for some fishing and while I was having my coffee early in the morning I could see some lucky anglers pull sizeable fish from the river. Bonus points: there is an excellent restaurant right next door, the Salmonberry. Great food you probably wouldn't expect in a place like Wheeler with "al fresco" right on the banks of the Nehalem. Spectacular.

Our reserved cabin had unfortunately been left with dog-stink from the folks before us, mixed with a plethora of cleaning solution scent by the cleaners trying to get the dog stink out. I was informed about this potential issue when checking in and given the option to be relocated to a different unit. In the end, we took them up on that offer due to dog-allergies and we were moved to a larger unit at no extra charge. The host/manager was prompt and accommodating, did some serious juggling to get everything sorted out. The cabin was very comfortable and we appreciated the inclusion of a washer & dryer and functional kitchen so we could save funds not eating out every meal, a family of 6, for 3 days. Highly recommend these cabins!
