The outdoor Onsen was excellent and relaxing. Food was really good as was the service. Free coffee and drinks available in lounge area which also had hammocks
Clean despite dated interior and old carpet stains. Good access to downtown. Very polite staff. Kind of sunset view though obstructed. Seems like it's used for weddings and functions.
Very nice Hotel! We stayed in the dorms and enjoyed the free coffee, snacks and drinks in the lounge area a lot! There were sofas and hammocks for everyone to relax.
Amazing location - near the train and bus station. As it is in the main town, there are several dinner options or the supermarket across if on a budget. If possible get a room on the higher floors - the sunrise and sunset against the mountains is beautiful. The room was clean and a good size for japanese standards. Staff was helpful in the check in process. The free drink machine with hot beverages was welcomed after a day hiking in the cool weather.
The onsen on the verandah of the room was amazing at the end of a long day of walking. The hotel is a little unusual, by western standards, but the staff are great, the room comfortable and Nikko is amazing in autumn colours.
Staying here we experienced the actual meaning of "old hospitality". The building is oldish, it gives 1970s vibes, but it is very well kept. The staff is so incredibly kind that has little or no equal in western countries. Huge room with a scenic window facing the hills and the river. The kaiseki dinner is an experience to be had; probably it's worth the journey. Breakast is one of the best we had in our travels. The "ofuro" is big and clean. You can enjoy the sunrise or sunset in the open-air part.
Great location right in the forest and within 20min walk to bus/train and 25 min walk to temple area. Owner super friendly and chill, food was really tasty and affordable, main area for meeting other guests was nice and the veranda was nice place to have my morning coffee. Even provided a lift to the train when we were leaving. Has a big bath (like an onsen) which was fun.
This was a gem of a hostel! A beautiful place to relax after a busy few days in Tokyo. The lounge area is lovely, overlooking the trees and with hammocks on the deck outside which was a great place to read a book with a beer. The onsen was so relaxing - there was one indoor pool and one outdoor pool (which feels like it’s in the woods!) so it wasn’t massive but it didn’t get busy while I was there. It was such a cool experience to be in the outdoor onsen at night too.
Amazing onsen (outdoor, indoor) including beautiful view of the trees. Outdoor deck with seats, hammocks and a view of the river. Beautiful shared facilities including sofas and also a kotatsu. Good kitchen and shared facilities and free coffee and tea.
Without a doubt the location was beautiful, especially with red leave season. The hotel is located in a more deserted area surround by trees. friendly host we didnt have breakfast but there was a self-served corner on 1st floor with water and tea. if you want to have a snack or cupnoodles you can buy with a small amount charge (which is nice since nearest konbini is 17 min away).
