The Steamboat Inn is the most extraordinary hotel that I've come across as a well-traveled swiss journalist in recent years. The rooms in the Victorian-style guest house are lovingly furnished, from the breakfast table to the four-poster bed. I will never forget my hostess Lana and will certainly return to the Steamboat Inn!

Boasting a shared lounge and views of quiet street, The Mansion on 17th, formerly Schaefer Haus is a bed and breakfast set in a historic building in Galveston, 1.6 km from Seawall Urban Park. This is the most wonderful property - steeped in history and oh-so-comfortable and luxurious. Rick (owner) and Tammy (host) were so welcoming and friendly. Tammy made us wonderful (complimentary) afternoon cocktails and Rick made us exceptionally delicious breakfasts (his French toast is the best I’ve ever tasted). The house is in a neighbourhood of gorgeous historic mansions, each a story in themselves. We cannot recommend Schaefer Haus enough.

Walnut Canyon Cabins provides air-conditioned accommodation in Fredericksburg. This bed and breakfast features free private parking and a business centre. Absolutely fantastic hosts and accommodation Carl and Rhonda were so informative and helped us plan our stay to the T. Would highly recommend!!!!

Hardeman House Bed and Breakfast has garden views, free WiFi and free private parking, situated in Nacogdoches, 32 km from Pitser Garrison Convention Center. Great location, being able to walk into the historic downtown. Parking onsite. Room (we had Crockett Room) was clean, well presented, very comfortable bed and a good size. Breakfast was great and thoroughly enjoyed sitting at the table, meeting other people during breakfast. We just had an overnight stop during a long journey, but certainly could have stayed longer - a very comfortable, relaxing stop.
