What looked like a cute rustic farmhouse hotel from the online photos was actually an underwhelming and overpriced stay. Definitely not a place to visit in its current conditions if you're into well appointed boutique hotels.
I hope this review can be used as constructive criticism because there is a lot of potential here.
The check-in experience was quite easy and welcoming. The staff was kind to leave a bottle of wine in our room since they knew we were coming on our honeymoon.
The hotel room felt very bare, dated and without any character. Not a single piece of artwork, rug, or accent pillow. The furniture all felt very cheap and dated. From the most basic shelving unit, to the plastic lighting fixtures and the bedside table lamps that looked like the cheapest desk lights at Ikea. This was very off-putting for what one might expect from a property like this.
The room was quite dark and there was also a little bit of a smell of humidity. And with no air conditioning or fan, the room lacked air circulation which explained the smell. This made particularly difficult to sleep on a rainy night since the air was thick and no way to create fresh air in the room.
The room had decent closet space. There was a clothing hanging bar but no hangers.l, which seemed like a bit of oversight. Another detail that was a little upsetting was when the room was cleaned in the morning, they failed to refill the water bottle. Given that tap water is not drinkable in this area, this should have been done. Additionally, the wi-fi in the room was not great and completely down after the rain.
We had a little outdoor terrace. But unfortunately the views were obstructed by leaves of a tree / bush that could have easily been trimmed. This blocked most of the nature view which is what we came to this hotel for.
The hotel sits on a beautiful piece of land at the bottom of a valley. And the grounds are very nice with a couple of walking paths and ponds.

Olivier and Patricia are the perfect hosts. Their communication prior to our visit was excellent. We were greeted with welcoming smiles (including from their dog, Papaya!), an unexpected bottle of wine and some treats. The room was pristine and the kitchen was much more than we expected. They gave us excellent recommendations for restaurants and helped us make reservations. What I loved most is that Olivier and Patricia obviously care very much about their Villa and the comfort and happiness of their guests. Each morning, Olivier goes to a local bakery and leaves a breakfast basket outside each room which was an extra special touch of hospitality! We just wish we could have stayed longer and maybe at a warmer time of year when we could have used the beautiful pool.

For travelers who enjoy beauty in the simple things, a bed and breakfast (B&B) is the perfect place for a getaway. Hosts welcome guests into their homes and provide a private room and complimentary breakfast. Bathrooms might be shared by other guests, and there's usually shared space with the host.
Nice common room, terrace. very good individual bathrooms, sink toilet shower all in one private lockable room and large enough. Lockable cages for hiking gear, outside of bedroom area.
Small private accommodation run by a mother and daughter. I had a private room with shared bathroom. all very clean and orderly, and a very usable kitchen.
The location is great and the pool area is very nice to relax. The apartment itself is a bit dark but comfortable and it has everything you need. The host was friendly and gave me coffee for the morning 🙏
The place is very quiet and at 5 min walk from the village of Carrapateira and 15 min walk from the beach.
Friendly staff, cosy common areas, good for connecting with other travelers. Excellent breakfast cooked in the large open kitchen. If I pass through this town again, would stay here next time too.
Stayed for one night while hiking. Room was fine, clean with wardrobe space - located on the ground floor.
We had a private bathroom for our use, which good, it was not ensuite, but located a few steps across the hall
Our stay at Hortas do rio was just perfect! Really quiet location, perfect for relaxing but also close to beaches and towns for surfing and exploring. The staff were super friendly and welcoming, happy to help and assist with anything. The beds were super comfortable and the rooms spotlessly clean. Breakfast each morning was amazing; freshly baked cakes and fresh fruit plus loads more to fill you up for the day.

the owners were friendly and kind...gave advice on sightseeing, the place is casual but clean, darling courtyard with shaded tables to hang out. room was nice, owners gave us a bump up since I paid for shared bathroom but got a private one. many folks, caravaners, surfers from all over the world. breakfast was great, good coffee, fresh fruit, hard boiled eggs, toast jam cheese bread meat & yogurt granola etc.. ..location was perfect, you can walk to the dunes, cliffs & I could hear the sea all night long. lovely.
