Writing this review is a double edged sword, I believe everyone visiting Yuzawa should stay here but I fear I’ll never be able to secure a reservation here again.
Incredible food, perfect for vegans, vegetarians and coeliacs (gluten free). The coffee is better than Melbourne’s. Location is smack bang in the middle of everything. Hospitality better than every 5 star hotel I’ve seen. Local knowledge and guidance is superb. You could not wish for a better experience.

This was one of the best stays I’ve had in Japan. The lodge is very cosy and clean, and in the most convenient location if you’re planning to ski. It is right next to Shiga Kogen Ski Resort, and there is free shuttle bus that takes you to GALA and Ishiuichi in just 10-20 mins.
Mina and her mum were wonderful hosts, warm and very helpful. They really took care of us and were so hospitable ☺️
The cafe downstairs is fantastic. Highly recommend having breakfast there. It is simple yet delicious, taste of Japanese home cooking. Desserts are quite special and a must try!

Sansan Yuzawa Backpackers – This is my second time staying here. On this visit, I noticed that many things remained the same, while some have changed, especially the staff, who are now almost entirely Chinese. This means communication is primarily in English. Fortunately, this isn’t an issue for me, but for Japanese guests, it might cause some initial concern. However, any worries would likely disappear after a conversation, as all the staff (including the cat) are incredibly friendly, cheerful, and always ready to help. I hope this aspect remains unchanged, as it’s a key charm that makes guests want to return.

Yukinohana is a really nice Ryokan. It has some yukata that you can wear around the hotel, and also has 3 nice private onsen that you don't need to pay extra for or book in advance, so if you have tattoos, you can still bathe! It also has really clean, comfy rooms, and some free ice cream in the afternoons, plus free half-sized ramen in the evenings! It also has a delicious traditional Japanese breakfast. My friend and I spent our entire stay in the hotel, other than briefly going out for dinner.

I had a very nice and spacious room with both internal and external bathtubs. The dinner was excellent, and the breakfast was very good (Japanese style). The staff was nice, and the environment was quiet. It was a nice experience.
Location was very good, not far from the train station or restaurants and in the township. Private Onsen was a great experience, even though it was outside and we went at night in winter! The rooms were spacious and yakatas were a nice traditional touch. Staff were lovely and helpful. Toilet and vanity in the room was good. Note: Shared bathroom facilities means bathing in the public onsen with other people not separately.
Loved the private onsens. There are 3 private onsens so it's a short wait. Just look at which light is not on. Very systematic. There is a bench for you to wait as well. The extra large king bed was very comfortable! Most japanese wear the room pjs to the onsen.

The location of the hotel is excellent: it is within 3-minute walk from the train station. Rooms are spacious, comfortable, very clean, and quiet. We are very pleasantly surprised by its meal services. The hotel has excellent breakfast and dinner: both meals offer a great variety of cuisines (both western and Japanese); the Japanese option is very good. The outdoor onsen is great. The staff are a bonus: very friendly and eager to help.
