Satoru was super forthcoming with recommendations on where to go and what to eat. Everything hit the mark. The place was easy to find (even in total darkness), and is in a beautiful town Takamori from where you can see the mountains. Bonus points for the cute knick knacks and the lovely woodsy scent of the home.

Location is off the main road but if you follow the GPS, it should lead you there. Look out for the residence signs.
Recommend that you reach out to the owner early if you wish to dine at the hotel. There is a lovely bbq (both indoors during winter and outdoor in summer - additional charge). It was a lovely experience. This is a refurbished residence (which has all the modern amenities). There is a huge project screen where you can catch your shows. It has two levels with a lovely tea area which you can sit and view Mt Aso. The onsite kitchen is incredible. It has everything! It is a professional kitchen with even a sous vide machine. The burners are also industrial types but I did not get a chance to use them. Post dinner, we spent the majority of the time at the living area downstairs. There was a kerosene heater which was very helpful. It was quite an experience for us as we are not accustomed to the cold. Waking up the next morning with the cold temperature and cold flooring was something which we were not used to. The experience was definitely more interesting compared to any regular hotels. Would definitely recommend a stay here. The couple running the place was so kind and generous.

Yoshi is the epitome of Japanese hospitality. Yoshi-sang is warm and welcoming from the beginning. We were greeted with some warm corn tea and Yoshi-sang enthusiastically introduced us to the nearby attractions/onsen and food options, with his self drawn map! We would love to have a bbq session at his very nicely decorated place if the weather is not cold. The onsen and food option Yoshi recommended is awesome. On the cold night, he also offered to prepare us some warm bottle to warm up the futons.
Next morning, Yoshi also volunteered to defrost the windscreen as it was frosted overnight. He then made us nice dripped coffee and recommended us to take certain routes to visit daikanbo, the Aso crater and scenic route to Beppu. He even helped us to check the crater situation and weather forecast!
Staying at Yoshi’s place and meeting him is definitely one of the highlight of our two weeks honeymoon trip.
Thank you very much for the very wonderful stay!

Property was in the middle of nowhere and that’s what we like about it! Fireplace was fun for the children. Surprisingly though amenities is not near, it turned out to be a favorite for my city kids.

Charming location. Beautiful traditional Japanese house. We brought pot noodles as worried there would be nowhere to eat but didn't need to worry as helpful host gave us directions to an izikaya a couple of kilometres away. Good if you have a car but probably not ideal to walk at night as not much pavement or lighting. Wish we had a bit more time to enjoy setting.
For travellers who enjoy beauty in the simple things, a bed and breakfast (B&B) is the perfect place for a getaway. Hosts welcome guests into their homes and provide a private room and complimentary breakfast. Bathrooms may be shared by other guests, and there is often shared space with the host.
Lovely, quiet, cosy, clean, comfortable, private country home stay. Shinya, friendly & lovely host was there when we do check in & taking care everything for us. Next morning, he brought us his mom homemade delicious chiffon cake (made using rice flour - yummy) & premium drip coffee for our breakfast.
Good location - Mt. Aso, Kamishikimi Kumanoimasu Shrine, Takachiho.
Nice space with traditional futons. Very spacious and quiet. Very nice host who also baked wonderful bread for our breakfast. The owner is currently building a restaurant next door so having meals there might be a possibility in the near future.
Such an amazing place with an excellent view of the mountain range. It's in a lovely quiet area that is still close to a lot of the main tourist areas if you are driving. Plenty of facilities that help you make it into a little home away from home and the host was so friendly and helpful. Would definitely be staying here again and bringing the family as it is big enough for many people to stay.
1.Japanese style room
2. Good location for a relay station. (Convenient to nearby attractions, especially shrines.)
3. Good water and good attitude of the owner.
4. Excellent Breakfast (Bread and Jam)
A very particular place, with a lot of love for details. The place is out of town, so we were glad to have a rental car. Not sure how you get there at night if not with a taxi. The owner was very kind. The room was funcional. What was exceptional was the small private onsen, which we liked a lot. Free coffee in the morning. Thank you very much!
- beautiful house with a love for detail
- very nice owner who reserved a table for us in a near restaurant (it was delicious!)
- lovely little private bathtub
The Sanrinsha is a jewel. The host has great tips for discovering the area and even makes you a complete schedule for what to see while evading the rain. The place has a very welcoming atmosphere and you feel like home immediately. After a long day, you can end it in the cozy, little, private onsen.
