Excellent place to stay if you have a car, and especially if you love cats. The Japanese style bedroom is clean and comfortable. Bathroom and shower facilities are technically shared, but since there seems to be only one guestroom, you are really the only ones using them. Host is super polite, and makes an effort to communicate via Google Translate.
This place is in a quiet neighbourhood ~20min walk to the canal. It's also a bit of a walk up a slope. Not really an issue if you have a car. Note that the shower is on the other side of the "cat room", and the cats' bedtime is around 9PM, so the owner requests that the guests return/arrive before then. Just something to be aware of. For us, any minor inconveniences are completely offset by being able to spend some quality time at the end of the day with several friendly cats.
For travelers who enjoy beauty in the simple things, a bed and breakfast (B&B) is the perfect place for a getaway. Hosts welcome guests into their homes and provide a private room and complimentary breakfast. Bathrooms might be shared by other guests, and there's usually shared space with the host.

This is a great little place in a residential area, very well located to the main tourist strip in Otaru. There's a shared kitchen that I didn't use but looked well equipt. Room had a private bathroom. Very quiet. Parking spot is narrow, but typical for Japan. If you have a large vehicle, there is overnight paid parking nearby.
Plum House is a great location for Otaru. It is quiet, quaint, clean, and very well equipped.
The garden is sumptuous, and the staff available all day. At that price, I don;t think there is anything better.
I strongly recommend!
Quiet house, close to the city centre and the train station (Minami-Otaru). There're also bus stops and nice restaurants/ cafés in the vicinity.
I stayed for three nights and never saw the host, but communication was easy.
The rooms were clean and comfortable. Decor was pleasantly quaint and as presented in the photos provided in their website. My family members enjoyed the private onsen in each of our rooms .
everything was perfect except for the distance from city center.
the staffs were definitely helpful and kind.
