Stayed in a few B&Bs during our trip. This one was by far the best. Received a call from Rachel (owner) shortly after we booked to confirm our room details as there was some confusion due to how we booked (our issue/fault). So we appreciated that. We arrived around 8pm and were greeted by Julian, owner. Very helpful, friendly, and accommodating. Explained everything we needed as we were going back out to watch a match and planned on getting back in the house late and didn't want to wake anyone else. Asked what time we wanted breakfast and he said they would have it going at that time and we would see him in the AM.
Got in that property without any issues and the room was very quiet, comfortable, and spacious.
Came down for breakfast and the room had pastries, cereal, water and orange juice waiting and the room was setup nicely. Rachel asked what we wanted for breakfast from the given options and everything came out perfect.
After breakfast we were able to have a great chat with Julian and due to his experience with the area and tour guide duties was able to direct us to alternative options based off our current plans and ended up being the highlight of the trip. Can't thank him enough for the tip and information.
We would love to come back and bring our kids and stay at the Five Ferns again in the near future. Can't recommend the property, Julian/Rachel, and the area enough. Will definitely be back.

Nice room. Good breakfast. Parking place. Helpful owner.
For travellers who enjoy beauty in the simple things, a bed and breakfast (B&B) is the perfect place for a getaway. Hosts welcome guests into their homes and provide a private room and complimentary breakfast. Bathrooms may be shared by other guests, and there is often shared space with the host.
Erica was very welcoming
Absolutely beautiful location quiet and tranquil with a lovely river setting.
The breakfast was amazing with homemade bread made by her husband fresh eggs from the chickens.
Very clean property throughout extra touches , cosy and quaint.
Would 100 percent recommend
We loved Riverside House fabulous location in a quiet spot by the river, good secure parking for bikes or cars, eady walk into Newport Erica and John were great hosts; the room was very comfortable and the breakfast was exceptional. Be sure to try the homemade tomato chutney
This B and B was in the town of Newport just on the outskirts but in walking distance of the town. It had very good facilities and a great hostess. This was a good base for exploring some of the attractions of County Mayo.
Great location, close to local amenities and areas to explore such as croagh Patrick and achill island. We found it ideal as a place where we didn’t spend much time due to an activity-packed weekend, but was comfortable and quiet whenever returning from a day of activities.
Lovely area. Great value for money. Clean and comfortable. Staff were friendly and helpful. We were going to a GAA match in Castlebar about 20 minutes away. Food was served in the bar but we didn't eat in the evening. I would stay there again. A charming old fashioned hotel. A lovely quiet relaxing get away.
