Glen Gat House, hotel in Dundalk

Halfway between Dublin and Belfast, Glen Gat House is an award-winning Victorian B&B in Dundalk, County Louth.

We phoned the hotel to inquire about a taxi from the train station and the manager came and picked us up, This was much appreciated. The entrance to the hotel was quite grand and welcoming. We were shocked at the carpet in the room as it was dirty. We had asked for two beds and I slept in the Queen size which was very comfortable. My friend slept in a roll away bed which she said was uncomfortable with no bedside light available. the queen sized bed had a light on each side of the bed. One light did not work as there was no bulb in it. The other light did work. There was a shower in the corner of the bathroom and I discovered the drain was plugged as I ended up standing in dirty water. I did make this known to the staff. I do not think this was the first trouble in the shower as the hem and the bottom of the shower curtain had dirt on it. The dining room and food available was excellent with very good service. A full breakfast was available. Interesting historical decor in the dining room. Tables well set out. Good lighting and cleanliness.

We stayed here last year and came back. It offers comfortable accommodation just up the road from Dundalk railway station, across the road from the cheapest petrol station in the area and an easy walk to the centre of town. In spite of being on a fairly busy road, it is set back enough to be very quiet. A substantial Edwardian three story semi, with many original features and sympathetically decorated. Very comfortable and the cooked breakfast dishes are excellent.

Sharon was a great host. nothing too much trouble. Sharon text to see if we had any problems & always at the end of the phone if need be. House was immaculate & location was so quiet & peaceful with lots of grounds to have a walkaround & chill. Just loved this place, I would recommend to anyone looking for a bit of peace & quite & not too far from town. Looking forward to hopefully booking here again for the next film festival. Keep doing what you are doing Sharon, top class hospitality Anne x
